British Empire Medal!

What has my sister Ann got in common with Lenny Henry, Kevin Spacey, Eddie Redmayne and Van Morrision?
Answers on a postcard?
Well....I Will tell you..........for she, they and only 1000 other people from this nation have been given an award IN THE 2015 QUEENS BIRTHDAY HONOURS LIST,
How bloody amazing is that ?
Ann has been awarded THE BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL for services to her community of Prestatyn and for her charity work and I think it's a wonderful tribute to all of her hard work over decades of community support.

Well done her. It's good to see recognition for someone who is not a highly paid fat cat.

They all look fabulous, would have liked to have seen a pic of you all scrubbed up as well!!

  5. Excellent! Although I will say that considering all the things you do for others as you potter around your village, there must be something genetic going on.

  10. I would venture to suggest that, as I and many others love reading your blog each day, that you should have your own BEM as well - Bloggers Entertainment Medal for services to blogging and putting Trelawnyd on the map!

Congratulations to your sister (and by association you). Does she get to go to the palace to pick it up or does it come in the mail? I hope the palace! If there's one thing I like about the honours system is that it gives credit to some very real people doing good.

  12. That is a high honor indeed and well-earned!

  13. Huge congratulations to your sister. What an achievement! I agree with commenters above that it's great to see a "real" person being rewarded and recognised for doing good.

  16. A heartfelt congratulations to you sister, for her hard work being recognized -- I know it's well deserved! What a proud moment for her and your family!!

But it's interesting (at least to me) for the British government to be presenting honors with the word 'empire' in them, given it no longer has one ... Sorry.... Just a thought from a "dumb American..."

    2. It was the middle of the night for me. I was not being sarcastic and I am sure John knows that. And yes, one word is plenty, eulogizing isn't always necessary.

  69. Scotch eggs all round! Hearty congrats to sis. It seems that acts of self-sacrifice (not to mention bravura) run in the family. Hope you don't have to wait too long for your own turn, J.G. But until that happens you have every right to walk around preening yourself. When Ann gets her invite to the Buck House garden party make sure she takes you as her escort. I want to read a blog of yours spilling the beans of what you found out when sniffing around.
