Things Change

The election whips old Trelawnyd-ites into a frenzy

I'm on catch up today. After taking Chris to the train ( he's off to Denmark for a conference) I collected coal, visited the supermarket then took the Berlingo in for it's MOT . I was running late but managed to get a lift back to the village just in time to have a meeting with my friend Bob's family and the vicar.....
Given the absolutely awful state the Berlingo is in , I was in two minds in asking the Vicar for a bucket of Holy water to drench the poor thing in, fingers crossed it limps through..........I shall find out later.

I have been asked by Bob's wife to deliver an Eulogy at his funeral on Tuesday. His two sons told me today that they would be too emotional  to speak themselves , so I am happy to " stand in" so to speak, but it is a big responsibility to pitch the reading just right.
I hope I can do the family proud.

It was after midday when I finally got home and had just taken the dogs out for a late walk when I spied one of the farm workers passing through high street listening to his car radio
" what's the latest about the election ?" I asked and he laughed long and hard
" Cameron's in ...and every other fucker has resigned" he called out
" Miliband, Clegg and that twat Farage have all gone" he added when I shrugged my shoulders
" who would have thought it?"
Yes indeed..who would have thought it.

As I ambled around the village with Winnie merrily breaking wind rather loudly as we turned into Chapel Street, I found myself thinking one thought

Things change........things stay the same

  2. Politics are dark and dreary no matter where you live, I think.
When I was in Mexico last year, some friends of ours who live there had just gotten a new car and I swear to you- the priest prayed over the car and blessed it with splashings of holy water. I witnessed this.

  3. Very true that things change - things stay the same. Nothing lasts for ever and the only things we can be certain of are taxes and death and the occasional dog fart courtesy of Going Gently.

Moan on as is your want, but you and or your town voted for a politician and that is what you elected.

  6. Plus ca change John. I watched Cameron at lunchtime - good speech I must say and rather kind to Milliband and to Clegg. No mention of Farage. Harriet Harman leading the Labour Party for now. Ed Balls lost his seat - I can live with that but was rather sad that Vince Cable also lost his as I have always rather liked him.
Samantha had obviously bought her victory dress 'in case' as it was startlingly over the top to put it mildly.

    1. Totally agree about that dress! Austerity at No 10 is unheard of.

  10. Mutatis mutandis, J.G. Trouble is, often the things that need changing aren't the ones that do change - and vicky verky.

You'll do a fabulous job for the family John, no doubt in my mind.

I always feel that waiting for the car to be MOT'd is rather like waiting for a relative to come out of surgery!

  15. How lovely to be asked to give the eulogy, the family must think a lot about you.

  17. I sort of hate to see poor old Ed Milliband go. I'm bummed that Labour didn't do better. But Farage -- it's GREAT to be rid of him!

  18. Don't sweat the eulogy John, just speak from the heart... that's what his family needs to hear - the heart.

Real political change? About as likely as the smell of a pig farm being improved by a fart in the wind...

  19. That's a great picture of you at the bus stop - but who are your two chums?
Best wishes with the eulogy. I am guessing that you have talked with the family about things you ought to include as you mark Bob's passing. Don't rush it. Let those who are present have time to absorb the speech as they remember him in their various private ways.

  20. awwww sometimes I cry at what I hope are well meaning but really stupid people are doing in my government. No one thinks of repercussions.
I am sure you will do wonderfully on the eulogy, as your blog post have already proved.
Oh poor Winnie maybe some "Beno" in her food everyday ?

    cheers, parsnip

    Ah no... Not our Nicola...

  23. The Houses of Parliament are now packed with about 56 Jocks who want to destroy Britain - if there is anything left to destroy in 5 years. Thank God the Welsh are a bunch of disunited Valley- Girls and the Prince of Wales is German.

  24. Say what you like about 'our Nicola' - she had the British Establishment bricking it - 'bout time someone did! but I fear her elation will be shortlived when the Tories draw up their plan to cut the Scottish budget by £12 billion! It's been a very odd kinda day. Feels like living in a foregin land. x

    2. She'll just turn off the oil pipeline... she's had a tap installed in her room.

    3. And... the more the Tories try such things the more she'll like it, since the more Scots will shift towards her ultimate aim. Never underestimate wee Nicola (like the Scottish Labour leader did a few weeks ago when he called her "a silly wee lassie"). The eventual breakaway of Scotland seems more inevitable with each passing week, regardless of the oil price... Not sure about the timing though (or the inevitability either actually, for I am not sure of anything). End of my political punditry then.
