Bothered By Gobbling

I had to make an emergency run to the supermarket this morning for toilet rolls,  bleach spray and washing machine liquid.
I've not been feeling  too sparkling myself...but there's plenty to do at the sick cottage.
The Prof is still in bed, and at three pm , I had just closed my eyes in the living room arm chair for a quick break when the Church Bell bloody well started....with the hormonal Bingley gobbling away in the background of each ring
Peace and quiet in the countryside eh?

Oh , and while I remember, I read out your comments on Mrs Trellis' dog eulogy to Mrs Trellis the other day, and she was exceptionally grateful for each and every one.
On tuesday she picks up her new dog from the animal rescue centre
He is a border collie, called Joey

  1. I'm sorry the church bell ringing is more annoying than Bingley....

  2. No church bells around here but my rooster sure seems to have a lot to say this morning.

  3. Look on the positive side. It could have been peals, carillons, change-ringing.....Instead you get a soporific repeated one-note accompanied only by the gentle bucolic sound of a frisky fowl. Mind you, having said that, sooner you than me! :-)

  4. I guess it's not always so idyllic!

  5. You could have far worse. It seems integral to the current state of things.

Don't you get sick too John.....Loved the sound of your church bells and Bingley having it out with each other. Good luck to Mrs Trellis with her new friend....I hope they develop a loving bond.

  10. That actually does sound peaceful to me, and delightful. I once lived in a third floor walkup apartment next to an ancient church. I was not an early riser. The first Sunday I nearly went through the ceiling when the bells rang just before service. They were very bass bells, yours are a mere tinkle in comparison :o)

I am so glad that Mrs. Trellis is giving her heart to another dog. I would say to keep us updated ... but it's unnecessary to make that request, isn't it?

  11. YAYZ for joey; he will be much loved by mrs. trellis and the other neighbours. and I would much rather listen to bingley and the other birdies than the church bell.

  12. Sorry to hear your on the verge of feeling sick too.
I loved the video of the stone wall and lane.
The bell sounds lovely even with Bingley but I was not exhausted
and trying to take a nap.
So happy for Mrs Trellis and her new love Joey.

    cheers, parsnip

  13. It's never as quiet as people think it's going to be in the countryside is it.

I'm so happy that Mrs Trellis is giving another dog a chance to share her loving home. Joey doesn't realise how lucky he is about to be.

  14. Annoying church bells are no problem here in the wilds of Tennessee. All that's needed is a rifle and a good aim.

Actually, I like your village church bells - - very quaint and appealing.

  15. Sounds as though you have caught the dreaded lurgy from the Prof.
Pleased Mrs Trellis hasn't waited long for her new dog - the best way I think although everyone doesn't agree I know.

  18. Great news about Mrs Trellis. I hope she will let you take a photo of her new companion at some stage. Get well soon to Chris and don't run yourself into the ground.

  20. Poor Chris! Perhaps you should call for the assistance of a nurse.
As for toilet rolls, what's wrong with neatly cut pages of "The Guardian"or assignments by some of Chris's dimmer students?

  21. So pleased that Mrs trellis is getting another dog. I had my pup 2 months after the demise of my beloved first dog. I still can cry when I read about someone losing their dog friend but it helps to have another furry pal in the house . He is asleep ony knee , having had an awake afternoon at cricket club!

  27. Ear plugs? Rest well, in such a pretty place. The quietest place I have ever lived is this semi urban high rise, except for the idiot neighbor who practices the drums late at night. Actually he is not an idiot, he is crazy but does well when he takes his pills.

Perhaps you should gently pass the identity of these pills on to John...

  29. Happy that Mrs. Trellis has seen fit to get another dog. We really can't be without our animal companions. I hope this border collie is just right for her. Food poisoning is ghastly. Charcoal should put him to rights and electrolyte fluids. Take care yourself John.

  33. Bingley the Chorister! Chris has had this bug for a few days....it's really hanging on and if you fall ill it will have to be nurse Winnie in her caring capacity.

  34. It still sounds peaceful to me, compared to our supposedly-rural retreat with a huge school growing across the road like a homunculus and a ever-busier major national highway 500 metres away. Give me bells and hormonal turkeys any day!
