Bagels and Rubber Chickens

William tucking into his bagel as Winnie looks forward "innocently" after eating hers

With Chris working away all week again
I've have an exciting day or so painting the kitchen walls a seductive tint of
what B&Q proudly calls " Juniper Blush"
I called down to the store for some more supplies this morning and called into
the pet superstore next door in order to let Winifred look at their selection of rubber chickens.
( it's a small thing but she does love it)
I bought coffee and bagels , walked the dogs on the beach
and when I stopped at the garage to buy petrol
George broke into the bagel bag and rather thoughtfully shared its contents around the car
before I returned.
I then backtracked to the bakery, bought more bagels ( which I locked in the boot)
Then have driven home, to continue painting
Half the day gone on bleeding nothing!

  1. Funny. I just said in my post this morning that some people paint their houses more frequently than I clean mine. Sounds to me as if you've accomplished quite a bit already this morning. At least you've made your dogs happy.

    1. The pleasure was all mine...watching winnie bouncing up and down in front of 100 rubber chickens is a lovely experience

  2. Don't dismiss giving the doggies satisfaction as a mere "bleeding nothing", J.G. Keeping them content and on your side is worth many hours of your piddling around with your 'Jasmine bloomin' Blush'!

  4. I like the background color of your text area on your blog. I think it's spruce green. A Martha Stewart touch. She likes that shade of green too. Very restful and inviting.

  7. When it comes to painting or some other big task, I always seem to find something that will delay me from starting it. Getting bagels for you and George is a good stall.

  9. Bleeding nothing ? ? ?
I feel that way also many days but then I realize that we have our loves for so short of a time. When I look at their sweet faces I know that when they are gone (mine are 16 and 12) I will miss them horribly !
You will finish the kitchen and the Trelawnyd herd or posse where I live, will be so happy.
My Scotty loves bread and pancakes !
    nom nom nom.

    1. Cecil is still with me and has got just a little more confident with life although I still cannot let him out of his run.
He is still screaming if the geese venture near to him, and runs into his house like the big girl's blouse that he is

Smiling here. I do love the way you write.

  12. Are the rubber chickens popular with your dogs? I'm put off buying them in case the dogs get confused and chew on the real things. Not really a morning wasted. You got bagels. Dogs got bagels. Job done.

    1. It took around 3 months to train the welsh terriers not to touch my chickens. George has never bothered with any of them as does winnie , who will sniff them in passing, especially if they have a shitty arse

  17. I would have said "Juniper blush" was pale green, oh well. I was going to call one of my daughters "Juniper", half-sorry I didn't. I may use it on an animal.

Love the innocence of the bagel chewer, I love when my dog(s) did these scampy things.... :)

    1. Yes, and it's a little sad gill
Winnie comes from a home that loved her, but she was essentially a breeding dog so didn't get out that much..... She however loved her toys and played for hours with rubber balls etc
      She still retains this love

  22. That's not an innocent look. It's a "My goodness he's dumb" look, as she ponders what you expected on leaving a bag of bagels with dogs in a car.

  25. That precious Winnie - we bought beautiful fresh bagels today after finding we can get a baker's doz. on Tuesdays at our fave bagel place for the very low price (over here) of $6.99. Will be watching for your doggies next Tues., even better if you accompany them!

  28. A friend of ours returned to her car only to find a piece of foil sticking to the dog's nose. The dog had discovered the kids' chocolate advent calendar while my friend left her in the car for a few moments! Fortunately, the chocolate hadn't affected her but she had very carefully removed the chocolates from the calendar. We had a collie when we were little and it used to carefully remove the chocolates hanging on the Christmas tree - but she would leave the wrappers still attached to the branches! Perhaps your lovely dogs were just trying to help you get in shape for the wedding?? x

  30. I'll have to buy mine a rubber chicken, they must have chewed through virtually every other kind of dog toy, they might as well kill a rubber chicken.

I've found that teddies from the charity shop last longer than any toy meant for dogs and are a LOT cheaper too. Rosy is always intent on getting out the squeak, in my dog book it seems that removing the squeak means the 'animal' is dead in the dogs mind and yes she does lose interest in them once they fall silent.

We have a lot less toys now without our pup, she had amassed quite a collection and I buried her favourite with her and threw the rest away, I couldn't bear seeing them lying around. Although I still find the odd one now and then in her more secret hiding places. :-(

I love the idea of the dogs sharing around the bagels, you'll just have to train them to save one for you.

    1. Sue, we bought our dogs teddies from the charity shop. Soft toys for dogs always seem to have squeaks inside and our dogs just have to remove them!! It's funny though, because we give each of our dogs their own teddy in bed at night, but as soon as they get up in the morning, they grab each other's teddies and run around with them. I miss seeing pictures of your pup xx
