Badger Paw

The shop assistant was called Emma and she was very sweet
She looked at Chris' wedding finger and guessed correctly that he was a " S "  fit
He has the long slim hands of a piano player
Having said that he did get the wedding band stuck on his finger for a while
until Emma said quietly and without fuss
" the secret is not to panic and wiggle the ring to get it off"
Of course she was right.
Chris waggled it and it slipped right off
Then she looked at my stubby fat fingers and said diplomatically
" I think we'll try a " V" to start with

I can't help having fat hands
They look like badger's paws!

  6. One of my sons nickname is Adam Badger, given to him by his sister.
So we like Badges but not the ones who want to eat your chickens.
I have very short stubby hands. So I must have Badger paws too.
And now with the crippling arthritis setting in they are knobby witch hands.
    le sigh !
You have healing hands. And that is a great thing.

    cheers, parsnip

  8. An exciting day for both of you.
They might look like badger's paws to you, but you must have a light touch if the look of your pastry is anything to go by!

  9. Wedding rings are perfect on any finger as long as they are the right size and the match is perfect - right on both counts for you two.

  10. I'm just in awe of anyone with or without badger's paws, who can take an in-focus photo with his left hand. Impressive.

      And it has surprised me
I picked a reading for the wedding today and when I read it out I cried
      Bloody hell............I can't believe it

    2. Awwwww. I didn't cry when I picked out our reading, but when my sister read it at our wedding, she couldn't keep it together. I'm enjoying all the posts about your wedding preparations, as it reminds me of ours this past year. I'm so pleased for you and Chris!

  14. Chris had his finger measured for a ring.In a very camp voice he giggled and said.. "Oh,'Q' for queen,oh how appropriate.".In the 1980s this just caused the assistant much embarrassment. Ah well.

But love that you are getting so close to 'the day' now...

  16. You look better with paws.

  17. Doesn't look fat to me. Much preferable to very skinny with large knuckles.

  19. Not fat; strong and practical hands!

  20. those are healing, caring, loving hands. (sigh) wedding rings - how romantic!

  22. I hear you. My husband is a Michael Barrymore body double. We decided our rings would read amo amas amat amamus amatis amant. He got amo amas amat (13 characters), I got the others (19) with a fairly sizeable gap at the back. My ring was a W, it is now more of a T, luckily the big gap meant no words were affected!
His ring still fits easily through mine. Oo er, sound a bit rude hehe

    3. Well yes, not the most ideal celebrity to resemble, I admit, but he is a very different person. Tall and thin and gorgeous, my David :) The Latin words are because we met because we got chatting over learning Latin at school. If it hadn't been for that, we may never have met, a terrifying prospect!!

  23. When my daughter married eight years ago, my son read a poem to her husband and my son-in-law's very British brother read a poem to her. There was not a dry eye on the lawn, including those two grown men. They picked the readings themselves and it was a very moving suprise to both the bride and groom.

Sell yourself better. Strong masculine that can lightly caress or break a nose.

  25. So are you a 'v'?
Your hands look perfectly normal to me, John.

  26. Nurturing strong fingers,
Mine have gotten rounder - along with the rest of me.

  27. My son picked his new bride's entrance music 'Sweet Child of Mine' Guns'n Roses! It set the whole day up. Don't do what he did with his wedding ring though - took it off to wash his hands in his works loo and walked away and left it! Needless to say, by the time he remembered about it, it had long disappeared. 400quid down the drain after just 4 weeks! He couldn't understand why his new bride made such a fuss about it. Are you having a wedding gift list? If it's at Fortnum and Mason's, forget about it!!(only joking)

  28. My wedding band is the 'old fashioned' kind, just like my grandma's, with the exception of scrolled carving around the entire band. Soft 22ct gold has taken a toll on the carving, but I still love it 44 years later. I love your less is more approach, I'm so excited for you both.

  31. I really appreciate you sharing this special time. Makes me a little prouder to be human. Best to you both.

  32. I would call your hands gentle and strong. I wear a 5 or 6 US size. I would say you are around a size 10 - 12. I Remember that song… With this ring I promise I'll always love you, always love you!

  34. i just teared up a little bit

  35. Did you have engagement rings? And as for a Bulldog in meringue.... it's a MUST!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have those big, meathook hands too. Congrats on the wedding band purchases.

  37. Look at the positive side, J.G. There's no chance of you and Chris getting confused and slipping your fingers into each others rings.

  38. This post made me smile. When my other half and I went to choose wedding rings about a million years ago (not quite) we were told he has 'baby hands'. No not tiny little ones, his fingers tend to taper in a chubby little baby way from hand to tip. Now after years of good feeding they would have to cut the ring off if he ever decided to be single again...not much chance of that though cos he knows where he is well off and he likes my cooking :-)

  39. Although married I'd never wear a ring. I'd end up ripping my finger off on a power tool or something! We never even bothered to buy one for me.
I was told along time ago that I have musicians fingers, shame I'm tone deaf!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would have thought stubby fat fingers would be ideal for all those practical tasks around the house and the animal zone. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

Anyway, choosing the rings - all very romantic!

  41. It's a shame that the Victorian Freak Show has seen its day , I think " The Badger Pawed Man " would have been a right little earner for the Shows Entrepreneur ....imagine that alongside " the bearded lady " and " the elephant man " !!!!

  42. The night before my niece's wedding my mum gave her her own wedding ring and I was given my great grandmother's ( my grandmother wore it also after she pawned her own ring )
it was very touching - this plain gold circle of love.
