  1. That is so heart warming. Caught it for the first time earlier this evening but have just watched it again. Merry Christmas!

    1. Calvin and Hobbes books are a huge favourite in this house. We have all of them and it's lovely to see my son grinning while reading them.

  7. Oh, that put me in the Christmas mood! Who ever came up with this commercial did a wonderful job. We have nothing like that here in the states :(

  8. That is sweet. And it made me cry. It wouldn't make me any more likely to buy that brand, but it made me cry.

  9. Sweet; this video has everything to recommend it.

  10. Penguin love affairs are the best.

  11. I'm sorry but I really think there should be a limit to all this bloody Christmas advertising. I'd like to suggest 'nothing before December 15th'. Bah Humbug.

And so say all of us! OMG ! I've turned into Mrs Scrooge.

    2. Nothing wrong with Mrs Scrooge. Her husband relented on the 25th, even if he was a bit grumpy beforehand.

In my defence, I love Christmas and enjoy the preparations. What I do object to is the the fact that it begins in September in most shops.

    4. We should start a protest group (of 2).

  12. A marvellous start to my day, this video and the DM report on the Pontardawe nightclub. I have had a weeks worth of laughter.

  13. John Lewis has been trying to build a store in Northern Ireland for about a decade, but the locals keep blocking their planning applications with all sorts of spurious objections because they're afraid old established shops would be put out of business. We used John Lewis all the time when we lived in London.

    1. The locals are probably right!

  14. Thumbs up for the Lennon song, but as for the Xmas remainder - bah, humbug!

  15. Personally speaking, I was gutted when I realised he *hadn't* got a real penguin for a best friend.....

  16. I didn't like this advert at all! I much prefered last year's John Lewis ad with the bear and the accompanying music. I was also upset that all he had at the end was a stuffed toy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. That's the first time I've watched that ad and all I could think was that someone needs to get that poor lad a puppy for company! Wouldn't he just love it? Don't think John Lewis sell puppies though x

  18. I think this advert is wonderful. It brings to mind my son and Valerie. The teddy bear that I got for MY first birthday that I passed on to my son when he was born. She went everywhere with him and did everything he did until he started nursery school at 4 years old. They had matching jumpers and many, many adventures together..... although we never bought her a husband!!

  19. I don't care if the whole thing is to do with fleecing us - having gone through years of bah humbug, I was forced to do Christmas for over 20 years, and now they have grown up I am back to being addicted to it again. (P.S. I was bitten by a penguin like that once. It hurt).

  20. It is brilliant. Our collection of penguins started something like that, one leads to two, and before you know it 100.

  21. I cried. The best John Lewis ad ever - and anybody who thinks John Lewis is a rip off has no soul. It's where I go to make myself happy...

  22. My son sent me a link to a parody video. It's all the same until Christmas morning, then the line is something like try something new this year #roastpenguin
I have no clue how a student in Virginia found it!

  24. That is amazing! So adorable....

  25. Lovely. Nice to see now there's just 44 days to go...

  26. Don't wish to sound glib but I have just this minute printed off the labels for my Christmas envelopes and this morning I bought three presents in town (and the fourth book of 2nd class Christmas stanps - one book each week when I visit the post office). Oh - and I have made my puds and my first cake (I make four) - sorry.

  27. Forgot to ask, How's Meg doing? x

  28. Sorry to burst the bubble... but ... what do penguins have to do with Christmas? If you accept Father Christmas lives at the North Pole then Polar Bears, Reindeer etc. I get but the flightless aquatic bird that only lives south of the equator? I don't get it... bah humbug... ;-)
