The Russell Crowe Lasagne

I make a mean Turkey lasagne
The secret is to sneak in two layers of sage and onion stuffing between the tomato layers and the pasta.
It tastes bloody lovely too....even Albert loves the eclectic layers already,, for he has stuck his face into the sauspan of cooling cheese sauce at least three times this morning
The bloody thing generally ends up the size of a small suitcase.
My lasagne could feed a family of 8
It's a man's lasagne!
One that the likes of Russell Crowe would be proud of

I walked up to the garage shop around 8 .30 am to buy packet stuffing.
And four people stopped me to ask where the dogs were......seeing me alone is a bit like seeing Laurel   without Hardy.........you know something is not quite right but can't immediately put your finger on.

Anyhow today's blog is not really about a monster lasagne. It's not about Laurel & Hardy either or about how I feel somewhat jet lagged because Ive worked two nights out of the last three and am due to work this evening.too
Today's blog is about very little at all
As  I said ....my body clock has gone all arse over tit.
I've not caught up with jobs, my blog and blog reading have all gone to shit and I've yet to catch Alfie Boe to prevent the little bastard keeping the neighbours up all night
I think the cheerful father , I generally wave to when he is collecting his kids from school summed up just how I feel this morning when he saw me marching back from the shop with stuffing under my arm
" you look lopsided without the dogs!" He  called
Yes.....I feel somewhat lopsided today.....

Eww, turkey lasagne. Give me beef every time. Given how busy you have been, you are forgiven for not wishing me happy birthday.

I'm gonna have to try that some time. Love lasagne, and turkey & stuffing is great too, so why not combine them? On the other hand I also love rump steak and strawberries but I'm not convinced they'd work well together - like the concoctions of the mad old bat in 'Vicar of Dibley'.

Good god no - a little eccentric perhaps, but I consider that an attribute to be admired :-)

You definitely need some restorative sleep as you know this schedule wreaks havoc with your natural rhythms. These hours are hell. Be well. x

  9. I've completely fallen behind on my reading... That lasagna looks and sounds delicious. Although, I had once been told in New York that it wasn't real manly lasagna if it had turkey instead of beef. But then what did HE know!?!

  10. Oliver Hardy is one of my heroes but I never liked Stan Laurel. I considered naming Snippet Laughing Gravy but it didn't go down well with the other members of the household!

Hope you feel straighter tomorrow.....if you know what I mean.

PS - would you mind if I put your Christmas card design from last year on the blog as an example of work? I've been meaning to ask for ages. xx

A lot of folks seem to be using ground turkey or chicken these days...I still prefer a blend of beef and pork but if someone else is cooking I'll eat almost anything lol. Your lasagna sounds like thanksgiving dinner in one dish....

  16. Hee hee, I love that another person admits to using turkey mince. I hate beef and always use turkey or chicken mince. I love the description of the suitcase sized lasagne! I don't make mine often as I don't live near enough a small starving continent happy to have the same meal 4 days in a row!!! I must try the stuffing idea, though there is a chance I'll not be able to lift the beggar into the oven if I add any more.

  18. I'll have to adapt this lasagne recipe due to me following Slimmingworld but I'll give it a try and get back to you. Christmas cards...hmmmmmmm now there's a thought. I am currently sorting out the second bedroom where my craft/sewing stuff is - the plasterer is coming on 27th so I need to strip the wallpaper off by then - once plastered I can get to work lol!

  21. You could market your lasagne through Wickes or B&Q. It would be in the insulation section next to the rock wool and polystyrene blocks.

  22. Recipe please? After you get some sleep of course!

  23. You should email a photo of that lasagne to Mr. Crowe and invite him to plunge his face right in, Albert-style. I'm pleased for you that you have such friendly, tolerant neighbors. No matter how lovely your home, it doesn't matter if the neighbors are assholes. Now get a bb gun and plan on some coq au vin!

  24. Your Russell Crowe lasagna looks like...wait for it...something to crow about!

Although, as others have said, I too, prefer beef or beef and pork to turkey or chicken in the lasagna. I rarely make it, but should consider it. I can always cut it into smaller sections and freeze what won't get eaten right away to have for later.

Glad that Albert is taste testing for you, to ensure a high quality product.

  26. I like turkey or chicken in lots of dishes.
The trouble with cheese, beef and pork in many lasagnas that they are swimming in fat and oil.

  29. Okay, I want the recipe as well. In my younger years, I would have experimented with it. Now, I just want to get it into the oven and then enjoy.
For years, whenever I heard a baby crying in church, I would automatically start swaying as if comforting the baby. Still do.

  30. I would like that recipe even if it is lopsided please.

  33. I would eat a lasagne made from Russell bloody Crowe. I think you nurses deserve a pay rise of 40%, never mind one! Did you hear that idiot saying that some disabled people are only worth £2 per hour?!

  34. If you ever want a change from turkey, I recommend a mushroom, lentil and onion lasagne. Will totally tickle your taste buds....

  35. looks dee-lish, john!

I use ground turkey in lasagna, sloppy joes, meat sauce over pasta. I even use turkey meatballs for pizza toppings and in marinara sauce over pasta. not as fatty as beef. and if ya don't tell people it's turkey, they will never know the difference!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anne Marie, I can taste the difference. I don't mind the taste of ground turkey or chicken, I just prefer the taste of pork or beef in lasagna. And, if you use grass-fed beef, there's no fat to speak of; I got a half a cow from a local farmer sometime back, and as the animal was older, most of the meat was ground. She had been mostly grass fed, and I do not have any fat to drain when I cook it.

  37. Lovely Hubby suggested we go for a walk last weekend, just us without the dogs ........ "WHY would we do that " was my immediate response. He was quite dismayed that I will walk with the dogs but not with just him, it just wouldn't seem right somehow .... what a waste of a walk.

  39. John, like many other's I'd like your recipe, only for what turkey you put in....was it ground turkey? I'd use turkey thighs, boneless and sliced.
My favorite is veal for this dish, pounded thin.
