Radio 4 Dramas

I love the BBC
Specifically I love Radio 4 dramas
I am sure they are the best in the world.
All week, as I have been cooking, I have listened to the remarkable
Police drama " Craven , Family Man"
Starring Maxine Peake as DCI Sue Craven
Dovetailed for just 15 minutes at the end of Women's Hour
This story of a seemingly normal family man killing his three children
in a North Lancashire town has been as compelling as any Hollywood film I have seen in a long time.
Radio 4 's 15 minute ( a day) drama Craven
Today I have been listening to a re run of a 1959 production
Of Paul Temple and The Conrad Case as I have completed a load of baking as
chris has recouped on the couch after a heavy week .
The adventures of  Temple and his sherry drinking sidekick wife Steve
have been a remarkably entertaining listen

Thank goodness for iplayer.
If you can listen to these two dramas do so
You won't be disappointed
Hats off to the BBC

  2. Wish I could, sounds entertaining. The only hours our public radio get's BBC is from 2 to 5am, and I'm rarely awake.

    2. I looked into that a few weeks ago & BBC iPlayer isn't available outside the UK. Apparently they connect directly to your IP address and block anyone who is not a resident of the UK. As soon as your IP address does not match their list of legitimate customers, the block is done. There is supposedly software "Identify cloaker" that will make it possible for someone, like yourself, who lives in the UK to access BBC iPlayer when traveling outside the UK. Normally you will be blocked the minute you leave the UK. You can download programs & watch them out of country, but you may have to change browsers & IP address it doesn't always work. I don't know why iPlayer would want to restrict viewership to the UK, but they do.
I would be thrilled if I could get the real UK version of the BBC on TV. BBC America is mostly old Graham Norton episodes & news late at night. I will say that the World news on BBC is the only news show where one can see what people outside the US are thinking about World events. American's get none of the good dramas or shows like the baking competitions show on the real BBC.Canadians do. I have to settle for pirated episodes on YouTube before they find them and block them. In a vast wasteland of TV in the US (except TWD) I would love to be able to watch BB, but BBC makes sure we can't.

  3. I'm hooked on the BBC Radio iplayer. Dramas: Room With A View: Crime: not Temple - heard them so many time on 4Extra, but Baldi , The Martin Beck Killings as well as Dark Fire and S.F:The Further Adventures of the First King of Mars, with Dr Who...

  4. I used to love Paul Temple dramas. Do they still use that same music which is going round in my head as I write this.

  5. Me too. I wonder what the BBC will do if Scotland breaks away? If there are no licence payers North of the border, will they carry on giving weather forecasts, or even allowing them to listen or watch at all? Yet another implication that hasn't been thought about too much.

    1. Well we own 10% of the BBC, so I suppose we'll leave with that (and our share of the LPs and singles... like all good splits) call that the SBC, which may possibly stand for the Shortbread Broadcasting Corporation.

    2. As long as Jenni Murray and the Archers don't dissapear , North of the border I don't care

    3. I think that us English should just give a cash settlement to the ungrateful Jocks, then set up massive, Soviet-style radio blockers to stop the signal.

If that fails, then we should just declare war on Scotland within the first week of the Yes vote.

    4. "then set up massive, Soviet-style radio blockers to stop the signal."

Yes please. That would be nice.

    6. "At least we could send Lorraine Kelly back home"

      No thanks.

And anyway you couldn't. She's a British citizen. Is the rUK going to strip people of citizenship? I don't think so. In fact I don't think they can, regardless of where they live. It will be an interesting mess. Except it probably won't, at least not yet, as I expect a narrow No vote this time.

  6. Unfortunately, I can't listen to anything while I'm doing something else. It gives me a headache.

  7. Sadly Family Man played out - for real - over here this week. A devoted family man who killed his wife, their two children, and then himself. So many unaswered, and unanswerable, questions.
And I can't listen while I 'do' things. Either the thing I am listening or the thing I am doing suffers.

  8. I will try and see if we can get any of this here John. We listen to CBC radio quite a bit and enjoy what they offer for half hour comedy dramas. I find radio much more interesting than TV/movies.......I think it's the lack of visuals I like, less distracting and have to focus on the 'word'.

  9. I would love to listen. Your so lucky.
Radio in American seems to be music and people ranting .
I remember listening to all sorts of shows as a child sitting at the kitchen table with my Mum.
So lots of time when I am working I will put on a favorite movie or steam a movie and listen when I work.

    cheers, parsnip

  11. I love BBC iplayer radio, I listen to Radio 4 and Radio 4 extra all the time. Great company when cooking, cleaning, sewing etc especially now that New Zealand National Radio seems to have gone down the gurgler through having its budget relentlessly whittled away. Thank you generous BBC for making it available. Now if only we could get the BBC iplayer television programmes as well!

  13. I tried to listen to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) in the car but felt like I was about to drive off the road! I am definitely a one-track mind kind of person. More power to those who can multi-task.

  16. I can't even tell you how I got here (I started at Jean's knitting) but fun blog and I can't wait to see if those of us in the US can podcast these 15 minute shows. I'm listening to my first, Homefront, and had no idea they were a tradition. Or I can fake an IP address...
