I'm With Stupid

Yesterday was a kind of non descriptive day, which was spent , for the most part, strimming the field.
I only left the village at 5.30, when I had to take William to the vets .
His summer itching has hiked up,a gear, and he was in desperate need of a steroid injection or a Valium

We drove to the satellite surgery around 6 miles away and had to wait three quarters of an hour to see the vet. George Clooney vet and the mad Irish Colleen vet were not on duty but the pretty baby Russell Crowe look-a-like  vet was on duty, so I wished I had brushed my hair and changed my tea stained t shirt before I left the house.
But C'est la vie as the frogs say.

On the way home, I thought I would treat ourselves to a KFC ( oh shush up) - well it was after tea time and Chris was still away in Canada so we decided to pamper ourselves and made our way to the drive in.
There was a cheerful woman at the order window, when I ordered myself  some popcorn chicken , and she smiled at William , who smiled back at her from the passenger seat and pointing at him sat up against the sear back as Welsh terriers do, she, asked
" is he having anything?"
" are you having anything?" I asked William who suddenly looked very interested
" He'll have large fries" I told the girl
" do you want a bag with that you lovely boy?" She asked William, obviously enjoying the little game
but William had suddenly started to lick his bottom and the girl looked at me instead

" Dont worry, he's not being rude....., I've always told him not to talk to strangers" I told her in way of explanation

  4. One of our dogs is allergic to summer - grass pollen, heather, bracken, midges etc. When the itching gets bad, I give her a Piriton (chemist's own brand bought for a £1 a packet, with the vet's approval) in with her food and that really helps.

  5. Interesting to hear of that Summer itching John - Tess suffers terribly. She has tablets and steroid injections and I rub tea tree oil into her skin but nothing really helps. She drives herself (and us) mad with her scratching and nobody has really come up with an anser. I shall try Piriton if I can get it at our chemists so thanks Susan.
Incidentally - I LOVE Welsh terriers - she is so beautiful. (and you too Winifred)

    1. Some chemist's don't like selling it if they know it's for the dog.

    2. You can buy the Piriton and the generic brands at the supermarkets straight off the shelves, I've found they work just as well.

  6. Summer itching? I wonder if that's what our Bok has. He doesn't have fleas but scratches himself all the time. Any advice?

    1. Our vet says it's common with some dogs in summer
It's usually a reaction to a tick or flea even though they may well have been treated already.
William has tried a mild steroid spray ( which may help book) but just needs a one off steroid injection to break the cycle.

    2. The allergies to summer seem to run in our dogs' family. The breeder bought a doggy 'sweater' for one of her dogs as it was so itchy after running through grass pollen and heather and it needed exercising off the lead. I can't imagine trying to get our dogs into sweaters - would be like trying to get an octopus into a string bag!

  7. Huge smiles. And I suspect you made the KFCian's day as well. Thank you.

  8. I was told by the breeder that Welsh Terriers are prone to Eczema. Elsie bites her paws until she cries. I shall ask the vet about Piriton. Thanks Susan.

What is it about KFC that makes one keep giving in to temptation even though you know you're going to be disappointed yet again, and left feeling dirty and used?

    1. I've always though KFC would have a big seller if they sold the original recipe skin & crust on a stick. That way you wouldn't have to take in all those extra calories from the chicken. Com'on now admit it - a lot of us just buy the chicken because it's the only way to get that delicious secret recipe crust.

  14. I have a cat that scratches himself silly and loses all the hair/fur around his neck in the summer,.... he looks so forlorn bless him. Last summer I tried dabbing 1 part vinegar (cider) to 3 parts water on his skin... he itched less and lost less hair so maybe that would help? Cider vinegar restores the PH balance in the skin aparently... don't know about dogs tho

  17. The bottom licking was probably tastier and more nutritious than the KFC "food"! Good job they don't have KFC scotch eggs or you'd be driving up to the window every day! "How many today Mr Gray?"
"Oh just the usual half dozen Myfanwy!"

  20. Our dog has allergies from July to the first frost. It is known as environmental allergies and they blame mostly rag-weed. Btw...it is everywhere here. He is on an antihistamine and we bath him weekly in a medicated shampoo that helps for a few days. He's been like this since he turned 5 and he's now 14. I hate this time of year for that reason alone. Drives me nuts and it's hard on old Kane. I keep him with me all the time to keep an eye on his chewing and scratching. Argh!.

  30. The last time I ate KFC was forty years ago and I was sick as --I almost said as a dog--I don't know what. I've had animals with allergies too, over these many years and other than that, nothing to add to the discussion, except looking forward to tomorrow's confession.

  31. When I was a kid, there weren't many places to eat out in my small hometown. In the summer, we visited Myrtle Beach regularly (it was less than an hour's drive from my home) and after spending the day swimming and sunbathing we ALWAYS stopped for KFC on the way home. It was a special treat in those days. So I have very fond memories of their food.

My girl Ginger had to have a steroid injection this week, too. Itchy summer skin seems to afflict pups the world over! She always feels much better afterwards.

  40. You've already been well-taken-to-task regarding the col. saunders place, but, as one potential junk foodie to another, there's a much better fast chicken place out there, but don't know if it's in the UK. Popeyes. They do a spicy fried chicken that'll knock your socks off, plus their 'sides' include southern-style greens...and black-eyed peas. If you come through the US, look in the airport for one. I know Atlanta has one, have eaten there often.
Yes, your dog is fine...cute even.

  41. Second the Popeyes suggestion. I ate at the Las Vegas airport one yesterday. The red beans and rice are awesome.
