A pinch and a punch for the first of the month…a slap and a kick for being so quick!

 * the video has little to do with the text but it gives food for thought on so many levels

I wonder if the one off "slap across the chops" for lewd and "lascivious" behaviour is more a product of cinematic folklore than a real social phenomenon.
Did it ever really exist?
Last night I witnessed a young woman squaring up to a young man outside a seedy bar in Rhyl.
As I stopped at the traffic lights the girl gave the bloke a couple of theatrical slaps ( to which he didn't retaliate) then launched in with a folly of kicks and punches , to which he did.
Friends of the couple then intervened before things could escalate further.

It seems that between the sexes, The Queensbury Rules no longer apply.

A few years ago, I had to deal with a patient's elderly father who became sexually "fresh" with other female visitors. The situation was complicated by the fact that the man in question was non English speaking, An Iraqi citizen and a guest of the British Government.
He also had little respect for any female nurse he came into contact with.
The situation came to a head when the relative  tried to grope one of the  ward nurses as she was in the middle of a nursing procedure. The nurse, an assertive Yorkshire girl, turned around and instinctively punched him hard on the jaw. A punch that had his Keffiyeh flying against the wall and had him sitting dazed and confused upon the floor.
He was still crying into his beard when I came lumbering into the room

From that moment, until he was returned  to Iraq a couple of weeks later we never heard  another peep out of him.

  1. A seedy bar in Rhyl? No way! Everybody knows that Rhyl is a cultured town where the popularity of opera is exceeded only by the town's affection for tea dances. Street fighting there would be as unlikely as The Queen and Prince Philip hosting a banquet in "Burger King".

  2. Hurrah for the Yorkshire nurse, now that was a language he could understand! Janx.

    1. With Yorkshire lasses, a punch on the jaw usually counts as foreplay.

  4. Should there be Queensbury rules between the sexes? I would say yes or even that you shouldn't hit a woman. Does that make me a sexist pig for treating ladies different? All violence is wrong. And you should only retaliate in defence.

Sometimes an ignoramous just needs a wake up call. I don't know what women are like in his country but in the Commonwealth we stand up for ourselves.

  7. Let's hear it for the girl! In his country there is no respect for females at all....My sister is married to one from Iran....same thing there. If my son had ever talked to me as her son has I'd have knocked him rolling...that is if my husband hadn't done so first!

  8. Food for thought indeed. We have a similar issue with an old lady on our street, she's awful ... really nasty but she gets away with things she does because she is old.

  9. In self-defence, okay.... but self-defence does NOT include battery because one is pissed, or pissed off.

  10. Not surprisingly, I did the same thing to someone at a club once -this guy was being really 'fresh' and I socked him in the face. That was back when I was an angry young person - I don't hit people anymore! ;)

  13. It is a good job I am always sitting down when I read your posts John - this one had me almost collapsing in mirth. I am all for any woman slapping (or worse) any bloke who gets too near.

  14. I'm still wondering what you were doing at a seedy bar in Rhyl. Does Chris need to stop traveling so much and keep a better eye on you?

  15. Standing on a crowded escalator my bum was pinched. I turned and slapped around the face the guy standing behind me. Of course, it wasn't him that done it... Ooops.

  18. I believe you have the right to stand up for yourself regardless of sex. Glad that nurse did just that! Gone are the days when nurses were considered fair game for sexual deviants.

  19. I love the way you keep your humour and optimism going John....don't you ever just feel that people in general are not worth the effort? humans seem to never learn and bad behaviour never goes away....or perhaps you see enough lovely behaviour to compensate eh? x
