Cheap

I have a good friend who has the same birthday as I do
Today I received this email from him

Hi JG

Thank you for the small package that arrived this morning. I shall open it tomorrow. I am hopeful that its diminutive size does not reflect its value, although given the hastily-prepared package and careless handwriting, I suspect I will need (as usual) to prepare for a soupçon of disappointment.

He knows me so well
I sent him a tin of this from Tesco

I am such a cheapskate

It's a lovely sunny afternoon
I've been  picking flowers from the churchyard
Before the council workmen mow the lawns

  1. It's a good thing your cuteness makes up for it!

  2. Seaweed? Right up there with Haggis.....although I am a bit fond of Haggis.

  3. I wish you could buy that stuff this side of the estuary. It's great with a poached egg on top, if a little gritty.

  9. I quite like Laverbread …… we always had it for breakfast when we stayed with our friends in Porthcawl.
I LOVE your friends email …… you've obviously known him a fair while and he's received presents from you before ….. he knows what to expect !!!! XXXX

  10. It's the thought that counts, and it arrived before his birthday! I love the picture of George with the flowers.

In case i'm not online tomorrow, i'd like to wish you a very happy birthday!

  11. Cheapskate you may be. But! You remembered a friends birthday. You got off your arse and bought a pressie (or dug it out of the back of a deep dark cupboard) matters not!.
    You remembered his address.
    You wrapped it.
    Purchased a stamp.
Plodded to post office to post the bloody thing.
It may have been a disappointing pressie but it was a pressie!!!!!!!!

  12. Definitely the thought and effort that counts :) Does your friend think you won the lottery?

  13. Now I have to Google laverbread. The phrase "Welsh delicacy" is already making me leery.

  14. Not your birthday tomorrow perchance? I never would have guessed as you haven't dropped enough hints!

  15. You travel in such a clever circle of friends (albeit possibly cheap and ungrateful).

  16. Whilst it's not a patch on the fresh stuff, wish I could get even tinned laver in a supermarket in sophisticated old London. Would love to freak out work colleagues by taking some in for lunch (would be lovely with a hot bacon & potato salad)

  27. I've never come across laverbread. Sounds like a good present if he's never tried it before.

A strange photo of George. It looks like he has nothing but a head!

  29. Oh I do love a good bit of cheapskatery! An old friend from uni and I shared a birthday and used to send one another the cheapest gifts we could find; it couldn't be free, however, that was cheating.
I once found a banged-up, pea green, whittled wooden stalk of celery for a nickel in a re-sale store; it was my best cheapskate gift to Kathy ever!
Oh, birthdays, have a happy one!

  33. I know it's late, (early?) wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday and couldn't find your email address. So this will have to suffice. These birthdays seem to be coming with faster turnaround time now, don't they?

    Have a most wonderful birthday!

  37. Apparently the Royal Family only give cheap gifts to each other at Christmas, so you are in good company! Hope you have a lovely Birthday Day, and the sun shines for you ( It is glorious sunshine here at the moment) XX
