" Ohhhhh errrrrr a blog....fancy!"

The doors were locked....I had a captive audience
The village friendship group is going from strength to strength with around 80 members. When I told them that the subject of my talk was blogging, a small muttering of " ohhhh blogging!" echoed  around the Memorial Hall in a slightly perplexed way.
After half an hour of banging on , I think they got the gist of it all and to make sure they didn't move I took a bucketful of spare eggs to the hall as a bribe

92 year old Islwyn Thomas ( left) discussing some point or other from
the data projector . He has a photographic memory of all things Trelawnyd

  1. That "ooooohhh, blogging" reminds me of a scene from "Chicken Run"-----"oooooh, Ameican".
Oh well. I get the same result when I say much the same.

  2. I need top tips, as I have been nominated to do a talk on blogging at the WI next year. How on earth am I going to make it sound interesting? xxxx

  3. I bet you held them all transfixed, J.G. - even if all their hearing aids were turned off.

  4. I'm sure your talk was well received and didn't need the free eggs or locked doors.

Maybe i can convince my 90-year old knitting hostess to start blogging. She loves to talk and is full of stories about when she was training to be a nurse during WWII.

    1. I'm sure she would have some interesting stories. You must "egg" her on! I've been doing my best to get my aunt to get a computer. She is 83 and I know she would love it!!

  6. I know you did very well! After all, they came to see and hear you, so they must have been interested. Or was there nothing else going on that day? Nahhh, they were definitely interested in what you had to say!

  7. Is that Auntie Glad in the middle? She has Auntie Glad shaped hair. I bet her scones would have gone down well as a bribe.

  9. I hope you used your Trelawnyd blog as an example, and not this one, with all its scatological references and idolizing of scruffy film and tv stars. "ohhhhh, ahhhh" indeed!

  10. Hmm... interesting thought. What would I say if I were to give a talk about blogging in general, and my blog in particular? I suppose I'd tell people some of the things that happened in my offline life because of what I did in my online life.

  21. I got roped in to taking over the garden club blog. It is like pulling teeth to get anyone to comment or sign up to follow. My natural inclination is to put something eye popping on there but this is a small place.....

  24. What a dapper "young" man, Islwyn. Is he the man to whom you'll hand your historic book received recently. In South Africa (and here on the mine site in EA) the Afrikaans fraternity rules. No one, absolutely no one that I know here in town even reads my blog. Back home the only follower I have in my home town of Marquard, is my 85 year-old Jewish friend. Oh, and living with Grant for 42 years, I am used to glazed expressions as well, John! So good on you for what you did out there. I hope you told your audience how far-reaching your blog is : USA, Oz and even East Africa! Have a great weekend. Jo xxx

  25. I don't think my mum has any idea what a blog actually means. She's determinedly computer-illiterate and has no interest in any online activity whatever. She prefers to fume over the latest scandal in the Daily Mail.
