Village news

Another stalwart of Trelawnyd sadly passed away a day ago.
Eileen Jones, of High Street did a great deal for the village community and the Church over many many years and in that typically Welsh matriarchal way supported everything from village fundraising , Church social activities, Flower Show and so much more.
She was one of those unsung heroes of village life, who rolled up her sleeves  and did rather than sat down to watch.
Unfortunately they are a somewhat of a dying breed nowadays.

I found this lovely version of Calon Lan recently. It is the mainstay hymn of many a Welsh funeral, and means literally " a clean, or pure heart"
This version is sung by Cape Town's Youth Choir
When one of the village community passes away, I always wonder if it will be sung again in the little church here........as so often it is.

  1. So sad to live in a small community and see the most loved, active and lovely members of it come to the end of their days.

Lets hope the little church rings out with beautiful music for her.

    RIP Eileen.

  2. Community seems to be a myth for most people these days. The same can't be said for your village. I am sure you will always remember her and give her a wonderful funeral service.

  8. Sad to see the old ones go...and hopeful that the younger generation will keep the village alive and keep with the togetherness...the song is just beautiful.

  9. Sincere condolences to all the late lady's nearest and dearest - and that includes you, J.G.

I didn't know this song, so expertly and movingly performed. It would surely produce many a tear at anyone's farewell service.

    1. Thanks ray...I didn't know the lady very well, though her daughter is on our flower show committee and her sister was a good friend of mine.

No wonder, John, that I don't often listen to music. Has the power to pull at your heartstrings, moving you to tears. Sitting here with lump in throat as to the beautiful sides of the world.

  13. It is sad to see the elders pass away. Nothing is ever quite the same after each one goes.

That choir was beautiful to hear.

  14. Coming from a small farming community, that generation passing left a huge hole in the town. Soon, so many had passed that their houses were silent and empty. More houses empty than were full.

Lovely song, and lovely tribute, John.
