Sherlock

Well, Sherlock is back....the multilayered  love story between Holmes and Watson continues energetically c/o Mark Gatiss' clever  screenplay, and the jaunty chemistry between Freeman and Cumberbatch....and although it is , in essence, a frothy bit of light entertainment, the whole romp is an absolute delight to watch.
Series 3 got off to a cracking start.........complete with a screaming Mrs Hudson,an appearance by Sherlock and Mycroft's suburban parents, a terrorist threat complete with  a plot to blow up Big  Ben and even an appearance by John Watson's new big hearted fiancé Mary.....
The series gets better and better
It will  fill the gap quite nicely before The Walking Dead returns.......
Enjoy

  1. And for the older TV viewers among us - Benedict's real life mother, the actress Wanda Bentham played Sherlock's "surburban" mother. Clock those eyes! She was a big TV star in the '70s. Yes it gets better and better...

    2. That was a real bonus, wasn't it. Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton still looking damn good. You can see where Benedict gets his looks from.

  5. So envious!! Of course many of us just saw Freeman and Cumberbatch on the big screen together in the Hobbit -as Bilbo and Smaug. A bit of a different dynamic!
So how did Benedict Cumberbatch end up with the world's silliest name if neither of his parents either cumber or batch? Hmm, off to IMDB to find out All.

    1. His father's name is Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, I believe. He dropped the Cumberbatch for his stage name.

  6. Even though, as a longtime Sherlockian, I balk at characters other than Mycroft calling him anything but Holmes, and Watson's wives were all named Mary, I do rather like this series.

  7. We have to wait until the 19th to see this. You don't have to wait so long between the broadcast of TWD in the US and the Uk.
Still, I'm looking forward to it.

  8. I have been waiting for this too....I believe we see it much later in Canada too. I really like this version the best, but in the meanwhile I have been watching the US show "Elementary" with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Lui. A modern twist for sure.

  11. From your description, it sounds as if it has become totally detached from Conan Doyle's original characters. But not having seen the new TV programmes, it would be churlish of me to judge. I must look out for it.

  13. Will I get shouted down if I say "Zzzzzzzz"? But, never having seen this (nor interested enough to do so), it would be unfair to sneer, so I shan't.
However, only 4 months now until Eurovision in Copenhagen. Now THERE'S quality TV for you. Hooray!!!

John, I hold your pronouncements in esteem.

However, I watched the first few minutes of the ever to be revived and gorgeous Cumberbatch (though not as delectable as sex on legs Laurence Fox of 'Lewis' fame) and switched off. If there is one thing I don't like it's people reminding me of what went on before. Till I succumb to senility I do remember.I will remember. To eternity. And beyond.

Anyway, thanks for not doing a spoiler. Since, of course, I will watch the damn thing on some iplayer or some such. Still, admit it, you can't beat Jeremy Brett as the ever haunted Sherlock, or indeed his sidekick Watson. What a combo.
