Scarfs,Steiff, and bags of cabbage

I was not going to blog today
I didn't think I had anything to share except for last night's film review
But as usual
I was wrong.
I didn't sleep last night..a case of too much coffee after the cinema
I was up early this morning taking Chris to the station, so staggered off to bed on my return for a quick nap. When I eventually got up to let the animals out, my favourite scarf had been looped carefully around the back door handle. I must have dropped it into the rain soaked road when I returned .
Not a big deal.
But a thoughtful little action from a passing neighbour.
( in actual fact I found out later that I had left the scarf in the cinema and my cousin and his wife noticed it and dropped it off this morning!)

A couple of days ago
A bag of cabbage leaves had been dropped off by the gate with a note attached which simply said
" for Mary"
Sender unknown

Last Week I delivered some eggs to Rosemary & Bernard in the village and collected a gift of several jars of homemade preserves. Each one carefully prepared and labelled.....and
On my way home affable despot Jason presented me with a huge bag of much needed egg boxes
Nothing huge...but little kindnesses for sure

This little chap was given to me the other day too
It was a " I thought you may like this" kind of gift

He turned out to be a vintage 1940s Steiff Scottie Dog
How sweet is that?

Little kindnesses like these  help the world go round a little more smoothly me thinks.
Ok I will rephrase that
Little kindnesses make my world run a little smoother
....................... and happier

Ps
In way of book ending this entry
Here are two separate gifts of bread left by locals for the birds
This morning!
Hey ho

  1. Sorry to be first but I'm stuck at home with a nose like Schnozzel Durante due to this bleedin' flu-bug thingie which is doing the rounds so my computer is my friend while I'm in quarantine! I love RAK's(random acts of kindness) - folks around your way obviously think you're worth it. That Steiff Scottie Dog may be worth a bob or two. Sell, sell, sell!

    1. There's one on ebay for $410.00! That's more than kind. I was given a few Bramleys the other day....

Please don't sell the Scottie, just enjoy. He doesn't need feeding or walking, and of course he is perfectly house trained; given his age he might shed a few hairs though!

  2. Keep the Scottie...he's adorable! But keep him out of reach of any other pets that might feel the need to rip him to shreds....

Yup, John, I expect nothing but the best from the world, rarely have I been disappointed. Yet, recently, the slightest kindness will set me off, have me choke and something suddenly getting 'caught in my eye' (justifying what, in truth, is a little tear of joy).

And you, John, deserve nothing more than joy. In the midst of chicken poop may your eyes not water. At least you won't need tissues with all those dogs licking your face.

  4. My good friend gave me a card with a tenner towards boots (I'm a cheap kind of gal) which I have bought and am now dancing in, (complete lie - I am just happy to have warm snug feet/ankles... fankles?).
This is because I help her with her horses, 'tho she is not a rich gal either.

PS Oh have just read over this and am now snickering to myself. sad sad midget.

  7. Gorgeous little Scottie dog, (at last one that doesn't need feeding or room finding for on the bed) .... and no matter what he may go for on Fleabay he's worth so much more to you because of how he was gifted :-)

  8. Kinda restores your faith in humanity doesn't it? Sweet Scottie. We have a beat up old Steiff terrier of some sort that was given to my hubbie ages ago because it looked like a dog he had. He's kept it all these years remembering that dog and that kindness as well.

  9. I had to take a second look since your own dogs often look to cute to be real.

  12. Having lived in this village in Derbyshire for almost 30years, this kind of thing happens so rarely that I can't even remember the last time.
In our little village in France, where I always feel like I'm stepping back into the 1950’s or 60’s, it happens all the time, often several times a week.
It leaves such a warm, cosy feeling and definitely makes the world seem like a better place.

  15. Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the US with lots of fuss about Turkey, football and parades. But your post today should be what it's all about. It sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for, John.

  20. Little unexpected gifts really lift one's spirits. Especially when you're feeling totally shitty and a small token of affection like that makes all the difference.

That's a very realistic looking Scottie. I second the advice to keep it well away from the living breathing dogs. What a wonderful community you live in John.

  23. Look up the blog My Steiff Life - the entry of Feb 4 2010 describes your Steiff Scottie. The blog owner has a Facebook page also - Steiff Gal. The toy is worth some money.

  27. What a difference between your little community and the things they build and call "communities" in the U.S. Ours have huge houses that encourage people to stay inside and protect themselves from everyone else. People were not meant to live this way, your way is better.

  31. In Trelawnyd you don't need money. Bartering and exchange is the way to go. A wheelbarrow filled with chicken poop for a pint at the pub, half a dozen eggs for the window cleaner, a goose for the milkman!

  34. There really seems to be a lovely, old-fashioned { and I mean that in a good way } mutual trust and friendship that many of you share in Trelawnyd John. I'm afraid that we don't have it quite as good in the Shires although it's pretty nice….. countryside all around and only 20 minutes from London but, I usually have to buy our own eggs and scones !! 37. So many generous and kind people in the world, makes me wonder why the news can't spread some of that around instead of the constant stream of negativity that seems to be shoved in our faces.
You are a kind soul and that brings out the best in us all.
