In The Eye Of The Beholder

We had a busy shift last night
In the changing room after we had handed over our patients to a clean and scrubbed awake staff
The other male nurses and I climbed wearily into our home clothes
My home clothes consisted of dirty T shirt, dusty kneed pants and my trusty mud stained crocs
I stood in front of two of the more immaculate looking Filipino nurses
And as I looked down at my somewhat eclectic attire
I said wistfully to no one in particular
" I used to be beautiful"
they didn't stop laughing until they reached the main entrance

John, please don't take this the wrong way - but you are clean when you do nursing stuff aren't you?? lots of handwashing and all that??? or am I just being a bit anal and worrying when in fact a bit of chicken poo or dog spit won't hurt anyone? and of course you are beautiful..inside and out...which is a weird thing to say to someone you have never met..but it is so honestly meant x
