Cuties

This is a cute doggie follow up post
A bit of a sweet bookend to my previous " bowel obsessed" entry.
The little fella on the left is my sister's new puppy
She is looking for a Scottish sounding name for him
But can't quite make her mind up
She asked me to post a photo of him in the hope that someone could come up with the ideal name
So
Any ideas?

Speaking of cute pictures
Here is a photo of Poppy
A three year old bulldog bitch
Whose owner is looking to re home
It was emailed to me today
Hey ho

  1. Broc (it is on a list of Scottish boy's names). I wish I oculd rehome Poppy. I am planning to find a brother or sister for my Boy but this has to wait until I return from my planned trip to Ireland in late September.

  10. awwwwwwww He is a cuttie !
The pup reminds me of my Scottie/Westie mix Hamish. He is now called thehamish because of his ability to do what he wants at full speed no matter what.
My brindled Scottie is named Dr. Watson because he was the companion for my Little Square Black Scotty Kirby, who was named for the vacuum cleaner. Because everything on the floor was hers !

    cheers, parsnip

  11. Magnus. It's an Orcadian name and you don't hear it much down south. If there's a new puppy in the family you'll be broody so that bulldog bitch is a foregone conclusion I'd say..... ;-)

  14. McTavish is my favourite, I did think Hamish initially but McTavish seems more roguish and he looks full of fun and mischief.

Oh what to do about Poppy? Are you going to be informed of every single homeless Boxer until you finally cave in?

  28. What a cutie! You asked for names, here are a few Scottish names of the top of my head: Nessie, Ness, Murdock, Gavin, Logan, and Brodie.

  35. First thought was Hamish, but then a fond and distant memory crept up on me of a pet we used to look after called Cromarty. The son of the family was called Ross. You don't come across many pets called Cromarty!

    Lovely pup by the way!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think he looks like a "Jock". Will you be able to resist Polly?

    ReplyDelete
  37. What about Seamus? Rolls off the tongue and is a 'sound' the puppy will hear when you want him to!!

    Poppy is a keeper......

  38. My name suggestions, Rory, Angus and Finn, and I'll throw in Cooper just because I can! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Scottish sounding puppy name? How about Graeme - the common Scottish spelling of Graham? Another idea I've had is simply - Mac.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Finn ? Hamish? Iain? Duncan? On a trip to Scotland we had a boat captain named Duncan...he was very easy on the eyes! Then there's Sean as Connery waaaay easy on the eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Otoole ... wait is that Scottish ?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought of Ian at first, but upon second look can see why so many others said Hamish.

As for Poppy--you need to do as your heart leads. I'm wondering how Meg will take to another dog added to the pack.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Another 'Hamish' vote. It's him all over!

    ReplyDelete
  46. He looks like a Hamish ..... and very cute he is too :-)

  56. This may be a stupid question but why don't you just buy a bulldog puppy? You'll know it's fit and well then and you'll give it a long and happy life!

    1. Bulldog puppies cost anything from 1300 quid
After 2 sets of puppies bitches are no longer " productive" and good owners will either retire them at home or find them a new home

I would prefer to re home a healthy bitch and let her have a family home

      Delete
    2. But up to now you've not had a healthy one. I never like to buy second hand...

  57. Let's see...slightly scruffy, soulful eyes, big feet...he looks like a "Russell" to me John!

I think Poppy is going to love being the new girl in your life. She's beautiful is she not?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am " healthy" bitch and could do cope with a life of scotch egg debauchery. I am not however house trained!

    ReplyDelete
  59. He looks like a Jock!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hamish!

I like second hand critters too.

  61. Oh he's definitely an Angus, 'Gussy' when he's being cute :-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. He definitely looks like a Fergus to me.

But why does the bulldog remind me of Shelley Winters in The Poseiden Adventure?

John, how about Crosley for the puppy name and oh I hope you take the bulldog, she is so cute and you could give her such a good home.... if I lived there she would live with me...

  64. I like Dugan or the aforementioned McTavish. Cute little guy, let us know what is decided. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. I see a new pup on the horizon for you! What a sweetie!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I had a friend, years ago, who had the sweetest little scottie named Mr. McTavish. He loved to go for bike rides with his mistress sitting in the flowered basked she hung from her handlebars. I hope your sister can bestow it upon her little guy.
being an American, but of Scotch ancestory, your sister could pick from my family names of Cruikshank, Cameron or McMurray. the only other Scotch names I can think of are Angus, Duncan or Scotch Egg. Scotch Egg would be unique and pay tribute to the dog's favorite Uncles' trademark indulgence at the same time. I thought you were going to Weight Watchers? How many points does one of those use up? Probably 3 days worth of saturated fat & calories in those fried balls.
Can't wait to see what name the pup gets.
Don't look at that bitch's photo. The photo was sent to bring on such quilt that you will reconsider your smart decision to not bring her home. They are playing on your weakness John. Don't have a lapse in judgement now. Besides Meg would hate her.
