3pm Blues

My father-in-law with shadow Meg
It's three pm in the afternoon and there's not a child in the house washed
Didn't that old Irish BBC broadcaster Terry Wogan used to say something similar on radio 2 in the mornings?
Anyhow, I have fed and watered the father-in-law, then taken him to the station in readiness for his long journey back to Kent, then I bought animal feed from the wholesalers, took Russell the gander to the vets with an inflamed knee, walked the dogs, and sorted the return of some of the Flower Show Cups in  readiness for the show.
I still feel I am on catch up

I think this year will be my last Flower Show as Chairman. It saddens me that entries are dwindling somewhat, and I think I may be ultimaetly better served concentrating on entering my own exhibits rather than trying to cajole and " bully "others to enter theirs , trying to do both is sometimes a little too much, especially as I am organising the open allotment day single handedly
At the end of the day the whole experience has to be fun .
I will give the subject some thought
I am having an off day today me thinks

  1. Snap .... I'm sat at the computer when I should be doing one of a million other jobs.

I think one more cup of coffee is in order while I work out which job to move to the top of the list.

I did that an hour ago ... but then it started raining really heavily and my top of the list job could not be done .... so I put the kettle on again :-)

  2. You do a lot. I believe you need a slow down.

  3. You are entitled to an off day. A scotch egg and a strong cuppa might sort you out!

  4. I didn't think about ganders having knees.

Yes, I agree with Gail, chill out a bit John - you can't keep the whole village afloat.

  5. Yup. You do a lot and you have to enjoy what you do.
    Sadly, Times are Changing.
Hah. I thought you said Russel the Gardner and didn't understand why he had to go to the vet...
Have a good day, John! :-)

  6. I know that feeling, this week is crazy busy for me with work and vet visits.

See you tonight! I have only managed to sell 10 raffle tickets :-/

Sounds like you're doing too much and need to jettison a couple of things before you pop. To everything there is a season and all that :-)

  9. Consider yourself hugged John. A hug of love and thanks for your messages and emails. I've only just seen them as I was totally avoiding my laptop.
You are truly a wonderful caring man, thanks again. Much love sent to you x x x

  13. And on top of that, you keep an international audience entertained every day with tidbits about gander knees. Bless ya, Farmer Grey.

  14. So sorry to read about your bad day.

... Also sorry to read about the vet's inflamed knee...

  15. One has to read everything quite closely... I'm still laughing - not about your bad day and Russel, but Mitch's comment before mine. Hope your day gets better.

  16. Hate those "off days"....but with all those critters and fur babies I should think you get lots of unconditional love and affection, which always helps. Your concern and tenderness for the animals touches my heart.

I also understand the frustration in unsuccessful rounding up of others to do something they say they want to do....Some times it is just easier to do your own thing, unfortunately...

Hope your day brightens up. Have a cup of tea...that always helps me.

  18. Some of us are born leaders and organizers, whether we want to be or not. Just ask yourself whether running the flower shows brings you more headaches or more joys, and you'll have your answer for next year. If it's no longer enjoyable for you, you're not gonna be as motivated to drum up enthusiasm for it in other people.

  20. It's been my experience that it's good not to stay on too long. One becomes jaded and others feel intimidated at the prospect of taking over from someone who's been so successful. I hope you can find a replacement and then support that person to the hilt, which should regenerate the Show.

You'll bounce back soon, I'm sure and it's good to have a blog where you can say what you think.

  21. You should co-co! I had to take my Mother out for the day.....it'll take me all week to recover! Hope tomorrow's better for both of us (you and me, not me and my Mother). Taking a train across the Forth Rail Bridge tomorrow with my lovable and very loving Grandaughter - much more at my level!

  22. Yes Z
sometimes it's more important to take part rather than to just organise

  23. Sorry, forgot to say, that pic is utterly adorable. I think I could love Meg!

  24. The poor man looks exhausted! What have you done to him? And where have his lovely purple socks gone? (I seem to remember another photo of him with purple socks.)

  25. EARL Not all villagers will be capable of bullying but you seem to do it well! You gotta stick with the Flower Show. One more time - giving you months in which to train up another bully.

  26. By today perhaps you are feeling differently, but I do believe you would not have written about it unless it had been crossing your mind more than a few times lately ... if the fun has left the room, it's time for a change. I did the same a few years ago with a ten-year volunteer position (should have been two years, but no one else would take over and the group ceased to exist), and it was definitely the right choice.
