Could You Just?

How many times have I have heard this over the years?
It is a phrase that is usually accompanied by a slightly pained expression
A tilt of the head
A half smile
and occasionally a bit of desperate flirting
"Could you just?"
I always know what's coming next.
.................this morning there was a knock at the door
A woman with that slightly hopeful expression smiled somewhat theatrically at me
" Could you just...........?"

....and in a cardboard box in the back of her car, was sat a lone, elderly chocolate coloured duck.
" has she a name?"' I asked the woman
She blushed slightly
"Her name is Lena Horne"

No more " stormy Weather"

  17. So, John, you're not just a rescue operation, or an ER center for animals, you're also a retirement home! You should be getting subsidies from the state, er, the country!

Just been researching her.... Some of her quotes are fab are they not.
      I liked this one

  22. You have obviously gained a reputation as an easy touch for unwanted fowl John. I hope Lena settles in well. I am relieved to hear that when you said 'chocolate' duck you were referring to her colour rather than her substance, because the last thing you want to eat is a great load of chocolate!

  26. An effort was made to find a good home for Lena Horne so I can't find any fault there. But I hate people who ALWAYS want something and follow it up with a: "You don't mind, do you?"

I didn't even know that there are chocolate brown ducks. She looks very pretty.

  41. Took my (nearly) one year old grandson to feed the ducks in the park today. I threw the bread to them and they got nearer and nearer. Little Dylan got quite excited and started waving his arms about, this usually means he wants to do what you are doing. So I gave him some bread to throw to the ducks. He ate it.

Thought about you when I visited the local bakery though.... they had some beautiful scotch eggs in the display counter!

    Lucky old Lena.
