Gay Ducks, touching up bosoms and other jobs

A few years ago I remember a news story coming out that discussed the possibility that Sesame Street's Bert & Ernie were in fact a gay couple.
Now it never crossed my mind that this odd couple..could be.....well.....a couple....that was silly gay bullshit......(although I always had my suspicions about Big Bird......he was always too much of a big girl's blouse for my liking.)
Anyhow I digress.
My own Bert and Ernie ( remember the ducks that came from the boy with the head injury?) have surprised me somewhat and have  come over all gay during this brief burst of nice weather. With the testosterone filled drake Halleh in tow , they have settled themselves down in a tight knit bachelor group of three , but Whereas Halleh will pop over to female group consistently throughout the day ( for some sneaky duck sex) Bert and Ernie will spend their time making "goo-goo" eyes at each other in the long grass, and on several occasions I have caught them behind the goose house indulging in full "drake on drake action........"
Hey ho....the chances of ducklings this year has just been reduced by two thirds!

The weather has been glorious today, and so I have worked hard catching up with jobs The first of Bosom' new veg beds has been raked and prepared ( bottom photo)
As the animals enjoyed the sun for the first proper time this year
I took a few photos as I worked.
It's nice to be warm!

  1. I had three male ducks once , one was quite a bit smaller than the other two, and they were brutal with him when the old testosterone levels were up. They didn't give him a minutes peace, they tried it on with the hens as well. Everything looks so much better when the sun shines - it feels pretty good too.

  4. Nah - not gay, otherwise it might not have been floppy. This clip must have been pre Section 28.

  12. Well you don't have to worry about them wearing out your hens anyway! Are those Soay girls going to be shorn soon?

    1. I need to think about that....I was told they don't need to be shorn but I think i would like to sort them so they can have a full MOT WHAT do you think

    2. I didn't realize that they shed their fleece! Interesting. Is it starting to fall off? If the girls are easy to handle and the fiber is loose you can pull it off too or pick it up around the allotment if it just falls off in clumps. Can you imagine a beanie made from your sheeps wool?

    3. Soays are an old breed and don't need shearing. The wool will come off in clumps. It felts very easily, too. A farm not too far from me has all sorts of rare or old breeds, and he has Soay sheep. He usually shears his because he processes the fleeces and sells them or spins them himself. Their wool is rough, not soft like alpaca. It was this farmer who told me how easily the Soay's wool felts. I can see cosy inserts for your wellies.

  13. Yes we had the warmth of the sun here as well the past 2 days. It has been wonderful, other then the fact I have been stuck in doing paperwork for the Crabby guy. How much land in acreage do you actually have John? it seems like quite a bit. x

  16. Any chance of a duck?

Well not from you clearly as you're more of the drake persuasion, lol!

Anyway - re your comment on mine. That leaf textile in rust that you love is a 19th /early 20thc pelmet from a French four poster bed. What superb taste you have. Mmmn so maybe you have more of the 'gay' interior decor stereotype than you (or the chickens or Chris) thought?

  19. I read somewhere that animals a bit 'higher' up in evolution could engage in homosexual behavior. Like dogs and dolphins. Ducks doing it is surprising :-)

Also surprising is that it must be really cold in Wales. It is 7 am here in North India (not as north as the Himalayas), and the temperature outside is 20 degrees Celsius. And this is relatively cool!

  21. Your Earlship,
You threatened a "bottom photo" halfway through this post. I am mightily pleased that no "bottom photo" appeared. I guess it would have been removed by the Blogger moderation team. Anyway, nice to see the weather improving in your Welsh retreat. Regards from a plain stupid "commie" - as Baron C. Mignon would undoubtedly describe me.

  24. My old cats (long dead) had some serious action going when I introduced them for the first time. I used to find Wiggy poised over Martin with intent, only to skulk off when he realised he was being watched. Martin ended up with a bum infection as a result and the relationship became platonic after that!

Re: scotch egg (very excited), I can't find an email address here and, though I'm sure none of your followers are likely to turn up on my doorstep, am slightly wary of publishing my address....could you possibly send me an email (preferably containing multiple high res images of the dogs)to emparko@gmail.com and I'll mail you the address back? Thank you in advance! x
