Morning Jobs

The badgers have run their fat bastard riots last night, and yet again have raided a corn bin which had been weighted down by concrete slabs!....I cannot afford to lose feed on this scale to a family of badgers which has trebled in numbers over two years.

We had snow last night, and the ground is hard and unforgiving. I started clearing "Bosoms" yesterday afternoon and wanted to get stuck in again today, but I am afraid I would be pissing in the wind if I started to throw the spade around.
To support the hoards of cold and hungry hens I have the field population the carcass of a roast chicken, which they dispatched within one minute flat...Birds are in need of some extra protein this awful winter

I have been busy with jobs all morning. Some essential, some not. I delivered some pork to old poultry farmer Bob and his wife, in lieu of some more lessons in poultry dressing , and have arranged with Bryn Davies to photo the inside of the Ebenezer Chapel this afternoon.
The building was converted from a corn store and market hall into a chapel around 1700 and is one of  the most important and historic buildings in the village.
I will post the photos on the blog laters is afternoon.
Jackie, the ever cheerful dog groomer is presently converting scruffy bastard George from THIS
into THIS,!
She is still tempting me with a friend who wants a home later this year for her four year old bulldog bitch.
The bitch is called BLANCHE
Hummmm?

  1. I use wheelie bins and an old metal coal bunker to store my feedstuff in John. I have even hung sacks from a beam in the barn in the past. There's a pheasant who comes and visits and picks up the grain I have spilled when I feed the ducks.

  2. Go for Blanche, I am certain she will be adorable with a name like that. Handsome Georgie Porgie he is now. We went from over a foot of snow to wet mucky crap you sink into with the ground being so soft, almost overnight. x

  7. How could you NOT take on a bulldog called Blanche....I mean come on, really?

  8. How about a large, flimsily covered, pit in front of the grain bin? If you caught one, and gave it a good thrashing, it might just tell its mates!

  9. Gok Wan would be proud!

I know how awful and destructive badgers are...but I still get sad when I see one squashed on the roadside....

  13. Next time, it should be a badger carcass you give to the field birds.

George looks like he really enjoys the attention.

  15. Isn't feeding roast chuck to hens cannibalism???
George looks very smart - and really you can't say no to Blanche can you?

Maybe not on the Blanche thing eh? There is a limit to how many times you can let a bulldog break your heart.

  18. George is so handsome.
I miss my little black lady Scottie Kibey still after all these years.
My Watson is a brindle Scottie and Hamish is a Scottie/Westie mix.
But isn't it a bit to early for a summer cut ? or does he have a lovely sweater to wear ?
    Love Weaver comment !

    cheers, parsnip

  20. Damn Blogger ate my comment. I'll have another go: George goes from Scruffy Bastard to Dapper Dog! Now he just needs Aunty Glad to knit him a spiffy little sweater.

As for Blanche - I agree with MBJ/Delores. Don't be in too much of a hurry to have your heart broken by a bulldog again. Taiho (taiho = slow down, wait) as we say in NZ.

  21. I totally agree with MBJ/Delores and Judith. Seems like you've got more than enough on your plate at the mo, especially with the expense of replacing all that pilfered feed!Give yourself a break, kiddo.x

  22. Can you not get a little garden shed to put the feed in or a large steel bin to stop the badgers. Being a farmers son I can't say they're my favorite animal

  23. What a debonair wee man George is!
Can you lock the bin with a chain through the handles & lid and a padlock? That way even if they pull it over it might not spill? I do have a soft spot for badgers but they shouldn't be greedy!

  24. I think watching badgers getting into your corn bin might be entertaining (at least the first time). Sweet George! Follow your heart re. Blanche. If we let a potential broken heart stand in the way of love we lead a sad life indeed.

  25. Do it! We're planning on rescuing a Dachshund in the next month or so.
