Twilight

Sometimes In winter, daylight just can't get it's arse into gear.
The Bwthyn-y-llan cottage, with it\'s 18 inch walls and small windows doesn\'t always make the most of the weak sunshine in January, so when the weather is gloomy, and even though we are south facing, our rooms can look as though we live in a twilight world.
I sort of like this time, for after the animals on the field have been watered , the dogs walked and the tea made, there is usually an opportunity at the weekends for a multiple pile up of bodies under the duvet.
This morning, I am still a little in awe of the iPad thingamy.
BBC I player has the capacity for replaying the week's films, and so such classics as KITTY FOYLE,OF HUMAN BONDAGE,THEY FLEW ALONE,THE YELLOW CANARY are all up for a satisfying watch
The bright morning light of spring and summer mean you have to hit the day running.
Winter dullness means Bette Davis in bed

  6. Thanks. You've made me feel a whole lot less guilty about still being wrapped in the duvet at 11.15! I did feed and water the kids first (sort of!) . . . Well it's cheaper than central heating x

  7. A good way to ward off the melancholy that low light levels can bring on!

John, for some reason on my iPad, my Janauary 8 post about alpacas has replaced a picture of three alpacas with your photo of Meg and George, yet when I click on it and it enlarges it is the three alpacas....I'm wondering if my iPad is haunted....can you see that too??? Maybe Meg and George want to come visit!

I will reload the alpaca picture and that should solve it

  8. A little winter dullness can be a very good thing. We have lived for so long in places with a lot of sunshine. I've never gotten over the feeling that I should be outside taking advantage of the sunny day. Bette Davis in bed sounds idyllic (well... maybe not literally).

  9. By the way, I won't cause public outrage by sharing my opinion of Les Miserables on an open forum. I'll save that for a heated debate during your long-awaited next visit to these parts...

  10. Not having watched TV for about 35 years, I am in love with iPlayer. It doesn't properly get light around here either at the moment, and this is the first time I have seriously considered going South for Jan/Feb, like the old aristocrats used to. Shame I'm not an old aristocrat, but I would have gone to bed with Bette Davis at the beginning of her career.

  11. My favorite time of day, dawn and twilight. The multi-layered color of light, the birdsong, the scents of nature when out for a dog walk...the best.

  12. That is the wonderful thing about winter and its darkness. It is an excuse to rest, and why not, that is what Mother Nature does.

  15. A multiple pile-up under the duvet - that sounds real cosy! As long as it doesn't include number 21!

  17. I've just 'found' your blog and find it delightful ! very similar experiences to myself when I moved to the country.
Google won't let me 'join' for some reason, I just keep getting 'google has stopped responding' when I try.
Never mind, I am enjoying trawling through your blog, and I'm sure I will always be checking in on you in the future.

  19. I am lucky to live in a very light and bright house that faces due South John. I don't think I could bear to live in the semi dark.

  20. I like the cosiness of winter, but we do have plenty of sunny days to offset the internal gloom here, and feel blessed that we do when I read about the bad weather you have up there in Wales. x

  22. I confess to liking these dark, rainy days, I think it may have something to do with being born in November, or more likely, that it is the accustomed weather pattern of my homeland, and is a familiar feel.
I stayed up late into the night last night, watching episodes of Mrs. Brown, laughing my frock off the entire time :)
    Ya....for IPads :)

  23. Even in winter, here in Tucson, Arizona we always have lots of bright sunny days. We are having a week of temps in the 46/25 range, it feels very cold for us but the sun does help.
When it is rainy overcast days I must admit I rather like them as it is different from our normal, so I make a fire, turn on some soft lights and as your say cuddle in with the dogs and watch movies.

Keep warm and The Square Ones send woofs to their cousin George.

    cheers, parsnip

  25. It's quite gloomy here today. Very foggy and rainy, but at least it's warm (which is highly unusual for this time of year) so we are getting some things done outside while the rain holds off.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Seems as if we have a mutual love for chickens :) I love your header. Following you now!

  28. Here, the only way I can think of to escape the heat is to create an artificial twilight, with the gloom of drawn curtains and minimal lights. Bring back winter.

  29. Our house is not very well lit. Cool in the hight of summer, and cosy in the depth of winter. Perfect.
