One Of Those Days

I just cannot seem to get myself going today.
I may be coming down with something.
The weather is drab and wet.corpse has been thoughtfully deposited by the catflap in the kitchen,  a corpse I squashed with a bare foot as I staggered towards the millicarno coffee tin in the dark of early morning.
(If you have never had the pleasure of standing full force on a dead rat with bare feet believe me, it's not really a bag of laughs.)
It's a day for such minor irritations!
Gloria, the turkey has actually lost her eye in that spat with Bingley, which has given her a somewhat sinister affect.
Russell, the gander has a limp again
and I need to clean the duckhouse out today ( A FOUL job especially when it is raining)
and to cap it all I have "burnt" my bum on the toilet after I had forgotten that I had bleached the bowl and seat earlier this morning.
I could quite easily go back to bed.
But of course I wont!
Spurred on by animal helper Pat, who has just called around with a ton of out of date food for the birds after she had cleaned out all of  her kitchen cupboards , I have just given myself a severe talking to and am about to pull myself up by my proverbial bra straps in order to get those dirty jobs  done.

  1. What a lousy way to start the day! But things can only improve after that, right?
    ONWARD AND UPWARD!

  2. LOL again!! Sorry you are having such a bad Monday. Hope you are not coming down with something and start feeling better! Do not envy all those nasty chores!

  3. Oh yes, not a rat but many a morning I got up out of bed to land on a dead mouse at its side *sigh*, but now she is gone after living over 15 years I find her in my thoughts quite often. Hope your day gets better. It is windy rainy and damp here on the Bruce Peninsula, but happy it is not snow like the western Provinces have been already bombarded with.

  7. Oh, I really, really, really, did try not to smile at your 'experiences' today. Dead rat? Stepping on one? Crikey that must been a stomach churning experience. Stepping in overnight poo dumped by one of our dogs is bad enough, at least that will flatten out onto the floor. I presume the rat corpse did not do that but maintained a shape beneath you. Quelle horreur! As for bleach. Might you try white vinegar next time? And I find rubbing Germolene on any sore or itchy spots does calm things down.

  8. Could be worse - think about poor Gloria and her gammy eye socket!
I do know the feeling only too well though!

  9. What an awful start to your day!

I rarely walk through the house barefoot; and since Phoebe only last week triumphantly killed a mouse who found its way in and was upstairs, you can rest assured i shall be fully shod until spring! Barefoot and step on rat---I think i'd have screamed myself hoarse if i didn't drop into a dead faint.

Good on Pat for helping put things to rights again. I'm always especially grateful when those acts of kindess arrive when needed most.

Now, get going, Johnthedogs! That duck house isn't going to clean itself!

  10. Why did I laugh?? Sorry, but I had such a picture in my head of you juggling your coffee tin, hopping on one foot while blessing the gift-giver profusely, I just could not help myself.

  12. What's going on around your place? Fighting animals. Bad help. Obstacles. Maybe your attitude needs a refill and all will be bright and shiny again. That's advice you would have received from my mother. For what it's worth.

  13. Must be the impending full moon tomorrow John...having a wretched day here today to, inspite of the weather being absolutely glorious. Rats!

  14. I hate to get a chuckle over you rotten days, but you have such a way of describing them. I'm disappointed that we don't get to see a real picture of the burned bum. (Then again, maybe I'm not?)

  19. Albert was to blame for the breaking of the toilet (I presume that was replaced with out incident) and now to blame for another bad day. I'm allergic to cats, my older son wants to remedy that by buying a kitten, the younger by buying a sphinx cat.

It doesn't sound easy to have such a menagerie, I admire you for all you do.

  20. Well, I've stepped on cat puke and cat poo with bare feet.
I would definitely rather that than a mouse or rat.

Have a better week, John! ♥

  21. One of our cats gifted us today also. Thankfully, I saw it before I stepped on it. I would have had nightmares about that for weeks.

  22. Not a rat, but slugs in a house I once lived in. Slugs which squeezed up between my toes and left a vile slimy residue. And cat puke. We can't forget cat puke.
I hope your day gets much, much better.

  23. Are you sure you weren't doing that anus bleaching thing so popular with American film stars these days...sorry it made me laugh

  24. My upstairs-only, indoor-exclusive cat brings mice down from the third-floor attic and deposits them in the bedroom overnight for me to squish in the morning dark.

  25. I know I'm late in posting but couldn't we place Bingley on supervised visits with poor Gloria. She seems to be getting pretty beat up by his "affection". Did the other male turkey get this aggressive with her in the past?
