The Brahams Blues

.

Over the last couple of months blogger has gone out of it's way to make blogging just that little more difficult for all of us.
I don't know if it is just this,or a sort of amalgamation of other factors, but I think we have all seen various favourite "onliners"  saying goodbye to their online diaries in order to re join their real world pastimes..
As many of us have plodded on, they have, with a word or two of explanation,  hung up their webpages and left them hanging on the web, like gravestones in a graveyard

Blogging, I have always thought, has that potential for fulfilling the need of someone who embarks in a conversation with a stranger on the train.
It can be psychotherapy , where emotional, psychological and social comment can be regurgitated safely away, shared and discussed with a potential group of despots from all over the globe.

It also can be a way of relaxing  the downtime hours;of sharing a life, an interest, an enjoyment in writing or design within a medium which perhaps has that simple ability to underline the fact that "we are here!- we are not invisible!- we have something to share...we have something to say."

Brahms Symphony No 3 is just an ideal piece of music to listen to when contemplating such matters. Press play and have a muse over your morning coffee.....

  2. I'm like Chris, I feel lonely. With my husband always away, my blog friends have been a real life-line- Thanks everyone!

  3. Blogging has allowed me to share thoughts, meet good, interesting people and to rave on about all the things that piss me off. All good then. Having a few days off is often good for me as I am not inspiring enough to do it every day though.

  4. The best part of blogging for me is the friends that I have made from all over the world.....it's like having lots of penfriends..... it's amazing how you can 'get on' with people that you've never met isn't it ?...... and, you can post everyday or be lazy like me and post when you feel like it !!!!
I hope that this doesn't mean that you are contemplating giving up John ? XXXX

  5. I blog, therefore I am!....in a nutshell (though I wouldn't necessarily describe myself as a 'despot'!) and I'm not a great believer in that popular myth that the number of followers you have is a barometer of how popular you are. Read it or don't read it...the choice is yours...I just enjoy writing it when I can and reading others' too. I've also developed a couple of really lovely friendships with my bloggy pals and we all agree that if distance wasn't such an obstacle, we would be friends in real time too. That can't be bad.
    Beautiful piece of music.
Thank you and Have A Nice Day.x

  6. Please don't even think of giving the blog up, I would miss you very much. I don't blog (but sometimes comment) and have a few blogs I follow on a regular basis. Checking in with you is one of the first things I do when I turn on the computer in the morning.
    Cheers,

  7. EARL - What morning coffee? Do you mean tumbler of Harvey's Bristol Cream?... It is a little sad and disappointing when much visited blogger "friends" suddenly disappear. I wish departees would at least leave final posts - explaining the circumstances - even if it's just to say "I'm bored with blogging and have nothing left to say." But I can't ever imagine you leaving such a note as your brain is as a fertile as a freshly manured Sheffield allotment.

  8. I have taken a break before, but it's a bit like a drug I had to come back for more. I think we all have days where we all feel we have nothing to say but it's nice to know even on those days people still pop by to say hello.

I must say I often wonder how long I'll be blogging for? For me it will be five years in May of 2013..........

  9. Blogging makes you realise what a small world it is. As far as quitting is concerned; I suppose occasionally Bloggers pop their virtual clogs.

  10. I agree with Cro, blogging makes the world seem a smaller and mostly friendlier place somehow. Long may it (and your blog) continue!

  11. Well.....I would really miss you..that's for sure.....With the 24 hour news in our lives we are bombarded with sad negative depressing stories that leave you with a " the whole world sucks!" feeling then I spend a half and hour here and I am left with " there are some really great people in the world ! " feeling.....so.....I'm sticking with it!!!
Happy day to you my friend...xx

  12. Not sure the reason I started blogging. Perhaps, I was reaching out for someone to talk to or acquire feedback on a story or thought I may have had. I've always been stand-off-ish, in a crowd and unusually quiet. However, if I'm writing I feel free. Plus, I meet 'the real' people of the world. I tend to think bloggers write their true feelings and thoughts and aren't apt to sugar coat them with the socialistical truth bending. Therefore, the true person is revealed. I met the whoa-man on line, 9 years ago. We've n'er had the slightest of arguments. We can sit together for hours without saying a word, yet still know what the other one is thinking. Strange set up but, it works out great.

  13. I began blogging as it truly belongs to me. I find it much easier to type away on a keyboard, then to make entries into a journal. I love the support, caring and interests of others who we touch upon Worldwide. It is all embracing, fun and caring all rolled in one at times, as well as humourous to get a day started from others. I truly would miss you daily post, dear John, and I think I would miss doing my own if I ever were to stop. xx

  14. I blog for company, I am not a hermit but essentially I am alone. DH rarely has anything to say, he works, sleeps or watches TV. The dogs are company but not very good conversationalists.

I take breaks off and on - usually when I find a good book to read or re-read. My blogging may suffer in November with my trying to do the National Novel Writer's Month, we shall see.

I cannot fathom coming to the blogs and not finding you or Jim. That would be my only incentive to quit altogether.

    1. One of the reasons i read blogs is exactly the same as yours. The internet is wonderful place for the lonely and i have learned so much. I see it as widening my interests, extending a helping hand( I go on forums) and generally feeling part of a community.

  16. Blogging gives me an outlet for writing & rambling on. I can't imagine not doing it but then can't imagine doing it til the day I die !
I miss one dear Blog friend terribly - Blogging was her oasis in a difficult life and sadly she can not blog anylonger.

I've made real friends through blogging too. Yours is the first one I look at every morning and I love it. Long may you continue xx

I thought about quitting as well, then decided to just cut back a bit. Stop laughing, I DID.

  19. I started blogging to avoid writing the same things in e mails to various members of the family...and it's sort of grown.
I've learned so much from other bloggers...had my eyes and ears opened...and frequently laughed like a drain.
I blog when I have time...but I make time to read my favourite bloggers' posts.

  20. We live such a busy life that blogging is the only way to stay in touch with family. The bonus is all the friends I have met in the process.

Beautiful music. I may have quit Blogger, but I am still here -- just at Wordpress. I'm not posting daily (or sometimes weekly)and the site isn't completed, but I do still try to read what everyone else is up to and what I can learn about their bit of the world.

  22. I started blogging because i felt a bit guilty reading everyone else's thoughts and not sharing any of my own. I don't blog daily, although i do read a few of my favourites most days (and this includes your blog, John).

  23. I blog to share my life with friends and family. It keeps me off the phone. (huge grin) Don't you dare give up blogging John, your fans would be devastated.

  24. I've noticed a few bloggers I followed have disappeared this summer - it's like a favourite author giving up writing your favourite books. I blog just to share what I do with anyone who wants to read it. I love your blog John - definitely one of my favourite authors, you make me laugh so much as well making me think. Please keep blogging, I'd hate to miss you too.

  25. I just not finding the time and when I do I feel I have nothing to say frankly - I did change my blog as I got completely hacked off with so many spam comments but that seems to have reduced comments from real visitors I get now which is a shame

  26. I am amazed at the wonderful community that exists in the bloggosphere. We may come from all corners of the globe (though why corners on a sphere I wonder), but we connect with each other and provide support. Magic.

  27. I like blogging & reading blogs for various reasons - so faraway family/friends can see what I'm doing (don't like Facebook), so I can write, to keep track of what I'm eating, to make new friends...and to read other people's interesting blogs about lives I could never dream of having!

  28. I go through the day thinking, "well, there's something that will be fun to share with my blogging buddies." Even when I don't have time to sit and write, it gives me a better outlook on life just thinking about it. Sometimes, though, real life just demands too much time. Or the chores pile up and I can't justify sitting on my butt in front of a computer. And rarely, there is just too much negativity in my life and I would rather wait until I have a better perspective than share that in its naked form. I don't feel it's a chore to blog, I think of it as a privilege. So I don't feel guilty when I'm gone for a while, I just can't wait to get back.

  29. This re-vamping of Blogger has come around the same time as I am embarking on new stuff and also maybe coming out of an emotional phase that inspired a lot of the past two years' material. I feel like I can't be bothered getting to grips with relearning how to use Blogger. Is my blog on the slippery slope too? There certainly a big life to be getting on with away from my computer - But I would still make time to read the blogs I've enjoyed to date. YOU of course are one of them :-)

I am one of those bloggers who has hung my blog up to dry for the moment for various reasons but I still like to dip in to other blogs to keep me sane.
hope all is well in Wales
