Toys

Meg has had her haircut today
Now I remember Just where I got the Welsh Terrier Bug
I think I was 4

My favourite toy when I was a boy was surprisingly NOT a stuffed dog
It was, in fact a model farm!
Go figure

  1. I wonder if our model farms were the same; red tin barn with plastic fences and lots of plastic animals, horses, cows, chickens, pigs. Mine might even have had a tractor. Hope you are well. Meg looks great! Lane

  2. Meg is so cute she looks like a stuffie! Or maybe the stuffie is just very realistic. Wow. A farm set? That's not like you. ;) You sure had your destiny pinned early!

  5. Haha. Funny you say that. I remember I had lots of farm toys and Lincoln logs and cowboys and Indians, too.
Maybe that's how I got my interest, too.

    Have a great Friday, John!

  6. Meg is now so neat and tidy she looks just like a cuddly toy. Well, for you she is a cuddly toy of course!

I had lots of favourite toys, including a model railway but also my sister's dolls.

  7. Gosh! I had a toy dog that was wheels and had a handle for pushing. My sister and I used to take turns riding it. Thankfully we never tried it with a live real dog!

  8. Meg is one of the cutest dogs ever. She looks so soft and cuddly. And MUCH better than the toy version.

  15. Deep dark confession time: I STILL collect Britains farm toys.

I left my collection behind when I left home and my parents gave them away. So with the advent of eBay, I started getting back what I had lost. I have subsequently discovered there are sites that cater for "us". It seems we're an accepted spin off from the war games and train set crew. One day I will have the whole lot set up in an attic too. Every couple of months I treat myself to something to add to my "diorama". This months it was four crows to sit in trees and on fence posts.

Well, that's out of the way. Off to drink cocoa with the same gusto as Lee Pearson tackles gin. And everything else.

  17. One of my favorites was a Fisher-Price farm, my mom and dad still have it and my kids grew up playing with it as well. The door still gives off a "moo" when you open it!

I loved making the whole farm up on the carpet at home, complete with farm houses with a nice selection of human staff!!!!
    how sad was I?

  20. Just occurred to me from the pics. You think dog noses are an untapped source of high-grade rubber?

  21. How beautiful! I do have a weakness for wire haired terriers but don't own a one at the moment.

  22. It's the ears that do it. They really are the best dog-ears ever!

  23. That's a big surprise (not)!

    Meg is adorable!!

  24. Yup, Cro got it right. It's the ears. They're my favourite bit of Elsie. Her haircut's not quite as fluffy as Meg's.

Was the toy farm given to you (someone else set you on the path) or did you ask/choose it yourself (the instinct was in your bones from the very beginning)?

  25. So gorgeous - Meg that is. I have a Meg too but I have and never had any stuffed toys with wheels. I feel I missed out as a child. I did have roller boots but they were not cute or even cool.

  26. Meg looks lovely! I didn't recognize her, and I'm sure she didn't recognize her surroundings with all that hair gone! I'd love a chance to cuddle her, but I'm afraid Emma the Calico Queen would object.

  27. I too had my farm to play with. I loved it! It was clean and neat. All the animals did as I instructed them....
Unlike what was happening outside on our real farm, where it was dirty and the animals pooped anywhere and everywhere.

  28. I had one of those too!

Thanks for bringing back that memory - we used to roll it down the hill outside our house and see how long it took before it fell over.
