My Favourite Lesbo!

Ginger Hero
Much has been made about the elitist "public school" domination of the Team GB Olympic Gold winners.
I won't be drawn into this debate, as the fact is that I applaud any cohort of clean living, disciplined and inspirational young men and women that can inspire a nation and it's youth, but I must add one thing to the Olympic hero discussion..... and that it to give a big up to the nations new favourite lesbian, BBC commentator , Claire Balding.
Balding, is , in my mind ,quintessentially British.
(well what we Brits would LIKE to see as being quintessentially British anyway!)
She is unflappable, informed, professional, warm and possesses that slight school-marm charm that is both reassuring and  impressive., especially given the dross that some of the "lesser" presenters come out with.
Balding is a class act. She knows her stuff and she loves her subject., and the Brits have warmed to her in the good natured afterglow of 16 gold medals!
 class!

  2. She who also successfully sued the BBC journalist for calling her a 'dyke on a bike'!

  3. I too think balding is great commentator. Never knew she was lesbian - not relevant to me really, but she's certainly top class.

  4. Wasn't she in merde recently for having made a toothist remark to a jockey?

  7. She has an easy-going presence which, I should imagine, puts everyone with her at ease. A definite asset to the TV coverage.

  8. The glorious Jessica Ennis attended a comprehensive school in Sheffield.

  9. I like Ms Balding too, she is a rare thing on t.v ....a pundit who knows the subject she is talking about.
She does look like Gordon Ramsey with less wrinkles and better hair though!

  11. I guess working with Willie Carson and his box has required a cool head. She's not afraid of a little bit of girlish excitement where animals are involved, be it horses dogs, or the sight of bunnies on a racecourse. Has a wickedly dry sense of humour too. Can't remember what it was related to, but many years ago she was on Question of Sport and said "Posh birds are dirtier".

  12. She presents Crufts every year and is as informed, enthusiastic and pleasant then too.

  13. Jessica Ennis is the living proof that you don't need a priviledged background to be an olympic champion, so well done her.

I had no idea Claire Balding was a lesbian. She's just brilliant at her job - a true professional - she was excellent on Crufts.

I have been so impressed with these olympics, considering I have very limited interest in sport. The reporting has been great, the presentation superb and the reactions of the athletes interviewed after their events, when they must feel completely exhausted and emotional, has been so heartwarming. God bless them all, they make me feel proud to be British again.

I agree about Jessica Ennis, however... I think it is interesting that state schools put little money and energy in the provision of sport compared to public schools....perhaps the Olympics will change this....I hope so...
as for Claire being a lesbian.... it matters as much as I am gay in the great scheme of things ie not a bloody jot... I was just being a bit of "devil" with the blog title!

  16. We have always loved Claire ..... she is not only a good commentator but is so knowledgable about so many sports. I thought that she was all about horses but NO ......... swimming, rowing, cycling, tennis ..... nothing seems to phase her. She is also SO likeable. I think that you are really enjoying these Olympic Games John. I haven't moved from the sofa since the Opening Ceremony !! XXXX

  18. Stop the 'ginger' asides please John. As the daughter of an auburn-haired beauty, sister of two lovely red-haired siblings, and the mother of a handsome red-haired son, I am heartily sick of ginger jibes. With Scots/Irish genes we are proud of our heritage and secretly regard it as rather superior to all others. And with our pale winter-white skin we probably should live as close as possible to the north or south poles but freakishly we fly towards the sun like moths to a flame.

    Oh where was I?

Claire Balding is a darling and we've known her since she was knee high to a fetlock.

  21. Ms Balding had some fun and games with another gay icon - Ian Thorpe when talking about swimming events. If you can get her in to open the next Trelawnyd Flower Show I am sure that entries will double and you'll get a much bigger crowd in.
