Prometheus

Some beautifully designed visuals
and a nicely crafted performance by Michael Fassbender
isn't enough to save this Hollow venture into pre Sigourney Weaver land......
6/10
Hey ho
(ps I thought I was the only one in the cinema and seconds after I sat down , I ungraciously forced out an incredibly loud fart!!
A minute later I heard a single cough from one of the seats in the back row
"Beam me up Scottie"

  1. That's what happens when you turn 50.
All of life's little rudenesses take over to humiliate you!

  2. Fart apart (!) I agree with your critique of Prometheus. So disappointing. I realised that I wasn't hooked when I found myself noticing the beautiful Michael Fassbenders's hair parting change from left to right throughout. Not to mention the steals from the 1950s BBC TV Quatermass series.(B/w fuzzy holograms of a past superior civilisation - excuse me Ridley but this and several other classic English literature and SF 'references' were clumsy and poorly executed.)

  3. EM . you sum it up better than I did....... apart from 2 scenes the whole thing lacked pace and a sense of drama. Rapace is miss cast.and as a viewer, you just don't care about the characters!

  4. You're the reason (or one of) that I hardly ever go to the cinema these days. Don't get me wrong - I disapprove of eating there more than I do of farting, but neither would be nice.

  6. I often think popcorn smells of farts, so I would have bluffed it.

  7. This is why John's fave film is 'Blazing Saddles'.

  8. Tom - I love our local cinema. Its entrance is situated in a medieval hall (honestly!) and has five screens with between 70 and 400 seats. As well as the regular major films on the circuit, they show live screenings of performances from the National Theatre, ballet and opera. And other live performances via satellite. Plus my favourite: every Wednesday at 11am is the Senior Citizens show. Usually major films recently off the rounds so a second chance to see. Reduced price entry plus free tea or coffee and biscuits. I used to take my mother, now I just wear a grey wig (hahaha) though I have noticed other less than senior citizens sneaking in past the 12 year old cashiers to whom anyone over 30 is ancient. Woohoo! And you don't get the crisp crunchers - though I can't vouch for the absence of farting.

  9. Not one I was really planning on seeing, but your review reinforces my disinterest. And as for the fart, meh. I think the listener will survive...

  16. Oh John you do make me larf !

The kids & I saw this & I thought it was a re-hash of a lot of sci - fi films I've seen but I DID enjoy looking at Michael Fassbender !
Thank you for thinking of me in your last post. I saw myself immediately ! ... I received a text from the man who has been painting our house - it said,

"Looking at green trees and blue skies thinking of you mate x" I text back, I guess that wasn't meant for me ? It wasn't. We did giggle about it later.

Shame about the movie, but I guess the fart made the occasion more interesting ... ;0)

  18. So the fart was the best bit of the movie?

  19. So instead of a Thumbs-down", you gave it a loud fart?

  20. Ha ha I like how they did a little cough to let you know they were there! Did you brazen it out and leave at the same time as them, or hung back a bit so they didn't see you?

  21. I laughed out loud at your farting prowess...just when you think you're all alone.

Thanks for the review. Love Fassbender, but I'll wait till Prometheus comes on the movie channel - then Hub and I can watch it and say "Glad we didn't waste the money at the theater."

  27. We love the first two "Alien" movies, so I dragged Kali with me to a matinee screening of "Prometheus" while we were on vacation two Sunday's ago. When we walked out, all I could comment was "What hokum!" (That's American slang for "silly, worthless drivel.") I had to apologize for wasting two of her hours, and now I may have set myself up for a screening of "The Avengers" movie, which Kali wants to see (for some reason).

Alas, sexy Fassbender exits pretty early.
