OMG an egg that scrambled itself!

There is an egg eater amongst my hen population,
The broody hens are causing congestion in the broody boxes which isn't helping but
I think I know who the culprit  is...
She is one of the crackhead whores.
Yesterday I tried an old trick to teach her a bit of a lesson.
I blew an egg, scrambled it slightly, and mixed a load of chilli powder into the mix before returning the mixture back into the shell. I then placed the egg back into the targeted coup and promptly forgot about it!

Today, as I was strimming the hawthorn hedge, I let one of the village children collect the eggs for me. She took a dozen home and I sold the remainder to the pretty nurse with bright ginger hair (I don't know her name)
I have only just realised that the doctored egg had been placed in the one of the sold boxes!
Now how do I explain that one?

  5. Apparently, you also don't know that chickens don't taste "hot". I put red pepper powder in their food all winter to help generate body heat. I read somewhere what it is that you're supposed to put in the hollowed out egg but I can't for the life of me remember. I'm thinking it's more of a "rotten" taste that will deter them...

  6. Yuck! Just as a matter of interest, I have to collect the eggs at work but yesterday there was a broody hen sitting on about a dozen eggs and she wouldn't budge. Should I chuck the eggs that she has been sitting on for days when she eventually moves and how do I get her to move?

  7. nana if you dont ant the eggs to hatch remove her and place her in a sin bin.... which is usually and ideally a wire cage.
keep her in there as llong as it takes to make her broodiness to ear off ( sometimes it takes days)
some broodies can be changed by dipping their bums into water and holding them there for a minute or so.....
I have four hens sin binning!

  8. Hehe I heard too that hens don't have the necessary receptors to taste/feel heat. Someone found the info out after being perplexed that her hens scoffed all her chilli plants without mishap. Some unsuspecting egg lover won't be so lucky, stifles a smile.

  9. Let's just hope it wasn't used to make muffins.

The "training" egg will surely be a surprise. You can always say those are no extra charge...

  15. Johnny, I thin you got some splainin to do.

Do you think anyone would buy a sitcom called "Johnny and the Crackhead Whores"?

  16. Tell them the chicken thought it was April Fool's Day?

I've read to try using golf balls or English Mustard in an empty egg may work.

    Good luck, John!

  23. May I suggest in future you fill the egg with sage and onion. That should scare the bejeezus out of her.

  25. Pre cooked eggs ! Ha ! Loving all the comments.
How lovely for that child to collect eggs - one of my happiest memories of staying on a farm - the smell of hay & fresh eggs very evocative.

My eldest brother used to get his sandwiches pinched at school so mum added hot chilli powder one day. A lad sauntered up to my brother & told him he didn't much like todays' sarnies !

  26. Expect a YouTube video from the person you sold it too very soon. And possibly a slot on The One Show.

John, I am afraid you have just lost a prospective customer. Scrambled eggs, syringes, chilli, crack whores in sin bins? Not sure whether to report you to the RSPCA or Social Services.
