You Have Mail

My hotmail email inbox had six messages in it this morning.
Six little lines
Five names that I knew
Six people that wanted me to know something.
There they were, silent and waiting.
Six messages.
One from a dear friend shared sad news of a family death.
The next was an upbeat message from the blind cockerel's previous owner seeking information on a much missed pet
and the next was a chatty story from a friend suffering from depression, that could not quite hide the mental pain in her heart, despite an effort to be upbeat and positive.
The fourth, was from a work colleague, excited at her imminent trip to New York (she emailed from the airport I think)....and the fifth was a business like news from a rural animal feed company offering cheap poultry wormer.
The sixth was some spam which had somehow made it into my inbox....it was marked " top secret" and was supposedly sent "from" someone called lawel Garba.....lawel was deleted away without a thought.

Six messages...four of note.
All sent within minutes of each other.......
It's a strange world.......

  1. It is indeed strange how these things come so close together...and are so varied in their content. I guess that's a good thing isn't it?

  5. I've found it weird when I have just clicked 'send' and at that very moment an email drops into my mail box from the person I was emailing (and I don't mean a reply!). It's happened twice now.

  6. Makes you feel loved, doesn't it :-)

  7. Strange and interesting, too.
Glad that the cockerel's previous owner checked up on him.
Hope you're all doing well, John.

  8. The joys of the 21st century. Personally I hate it when I manage to empty my inbox, only to have it fill up ten seconds later with replies!

Sorry to hear about your friend's loss. :(

  9. I usually have at least twenty-five messages every time I open my inbox, which is probably close to ten times a day. Unfortunately, it is not because I am so popular, rather, only because I am in dog-rescue. I receive posts from other canine rescues, shelters and transport drivers, all seeking to save the lives of hapless dogs that have had the grave misfortune of finding themselves in an "Animal Shelte", where they now face death by euthanasia. There is a whole world of people out there, dedicated to saving the lives of these deserving canines and restoring them to good physical and mental health then placing them in loving, FOREVER homes!

Never a dull moment in the Bluff Country!

  10. Other then spam and Groupon (an Internet coupon company), I get very little e-mail now since I retired. My news (?) from friends now comes from Facebook. You are a fortunate person to get 5 personal notes in one day. But then you are the kind of person that people want to confide in. I am sure it is because of your big heart.

  11. How lucky, not strange. You have a way about you that shines through in your blog. No wonder people want to keep in touch.

  12. Only in an email inbox would an imminent NY trip sit comfortably next to poultry de-wormer.

  14. A friend sent me a message marked "BIG BROTHER'S WATCHING", a link to a site when you put your own address in the search box, those of your neighbors are also given, complete with names, phone numbers, and all household members.
I'm beginning to wonder what else is out there ?

  16. Funnily enough we were talking of such things at our poetry meeting this afternoon (after someone read 'Night Mail') e mails are marvellous but they don't compare with the receiving of a fat envelope on the mat, which turns out to be a long, newsy letter from a friend.

  17. Hi, I have just recently found your blog and enjoy it.

On the subject of emails, my sister lives in New Zealand and its great to get letters from her so quickly. One night I woke up at about 2:30 and was thinking of my sister. I couldnt get back to sleep because I felt she was upset. I went onto my email to send her a note and found I had just got one from her. She was upset because her cat had just died. I phoned her right away and she was amazed. Telepathy must be even faster than emails !!!

  19. Some email providers do not send/receive immediately - Hotmail is notorious for this as they often 'put mail on hold' and send it in bursts.

    Dunno why!

  22. Many of my email buddies are now on facebook, so i catch up with them there. A few still send along good jokes via email.

I have one dear friend on the other side of the Pond, and we love being able to e-mail each other. We send long, long missives about everything and nothing and needn't worry about stamps or getting onion skin paper so the letters won't weigh so much.

That said, we occasionally send each other real cards, and those are treasures. But so too are her emails, and when i see one in my inbox, i make sure i have a nice cuppa and enjoy a long read.

  25. I love mail! I set my computer so comments come directly there. Just something about people caring enough to comment and leave a return email, makes my day.

In my 12 emails of the morning, there is usually at least one personal note (Thanks Goodness). Don't think I've ever gotten 5!

  27. I think I just got the same Top Secret message - how strange as they told me it was only me that the $8.8million could be sent to... ;-)
