Keeping In Touch

It's a cold, windy and rather wet night.
I am sat at the kitchen table after the marathon of Christmas Card writing.
A Sherlock Holmes mystery is playing on the radio.
There are four piles of cards in front of me

55 for stamp posting
60 for village delivery
10 or so for family
and an eclectic pile of 15 "miscellaneous" cards "to do"

Usually I absolutely adore the yearly tradition of card writing
This year it's been done... but my heart wasn't quite in it

  1. I'm trying to get my cards done. I think I always mess up your zipcode. Oh well. You have them done. Good for you. Take a rest now.x-c

I can imagine you aren't quite in the Christmas Spirit yet.
Our card list is down to around a dozen now. I'm thinking next year I may not bother anymore.

  3. Not surprisingly, John. Just take one day at a time...

  4. Although I love the thought of Christmas cards, both giving and receiving, it can be difficult at times. Glad you got through them and they are out and done.

  5. No, I don't imagine it was. That is a lot of cards! Perhaps delivering the village cards will help.

  6. I liked the bit where Homes goes mad on drugs. (I didn't know you had a black nanny, btw).

  7. A glass or 3 of mulled wine helps, so I find.
You're probably still feeling rather battered and not terribly festive.

Started today to address my cards...managed one card addressed to a blog friend in Ireland. Be aware that at this time I have 3 Halloween cards in the back seat of car...they were meant to be mailed...when? Oh before Halloween! This does not bode well for Christmas cards!

No need to push yourself to feel the Christmas spirit John...it's very kind of you to go ahead and prepare the cards anyway...a blessing to those who receive them!

  9. Hi John
Just go through the motions that's all you can do. I will find out on 23rd December if I still have a job in our 'wonderful' NHS :-(
    Take care

  11. I have not sent any cards at all since we have lived in France - We seem to have unwittingly opted out of the hoo hah of it all. Always we are too overloaded with so many other things to think about and do that there is no effort for Christmas left. Ah well. Perhaps one of these years I might catch up with myself!

  12. This is the first year we are not 'mailing' out cards. Instead, we are e-mailing them. Found this great British company who has a great selection....and it is easier to the way of technology.

A new year is coming John and things will begin to 'normalize'.

  14. I have pretty much given up with the holiday stuff. Looks like you are busy with those cards, it will do you good to get out and hand deliver that one stack!

  17. It's not easy, but it sounds if you are doing it, know that the ones receiving the cards will appreciate them.

    Big hugs to you,

Some years the holidays just suck.
That photo of the Christmas lights through the snow globe is breathtaking!

  22. Christmas cards don't really exist in France, so that's my excuse for E cards.

I did have a selection of the one you illustrate. Strange thin brown paper and non PC pix.

  23. You are way ahead of me.. I haven't done any cards this year and may just skip the whole thing altogether. I think you will be very glad that you did get the job done... especially when you hand out the local cards.

  25. I have misplaced my address list. For years, I had a card box where i've kept addresses, and it's gone missing. I don't know that i'll find it in time to send out cards. fortuanately, most of my friends also have email, so i can email them for Christmas and explain.

Good on you for getting it done, even if your heart's not quite in it. I'm sure it has helped a teeny bit at least.

  26. Everyone would have understood if you'd skipped the cards this year, but maybe going through the motions will help you in the end. Kinda like whistling a happy tune. Love that card, but it'd probably be frowned upon in the US. Not PC enough.
